Has anyone tired using a 10 speed 2x crankset with a 9 speed cassette for cross country?

I have not tried it, but it should work fine. For xc, I run a 9 speed triple with an 8 speed drivetrain and for road a 10 speed double with a 9 speed drivetrain. Rings are compatible with different speeds than they are said to be meant for. The double will change the spacing maybe, but that doesn't matter.

Update:
The 2011 XO 2x cranks work with 9spd rear cassette, 9spd chain and non-2x front derailleur with zero issues. I am using a thumb shifter to shift gears up front.
