Hey folks my Lenovo is getting toward the end of its life. After using it for another half year with a cracked screen, I finally dropped my laptop on the power cord which then punched its way through the plastic. Whats the best 15 inch laptop for around 1000-1500 bucks? No Apple...I don't want to relearn how to download torrents on a Mac platform, although I dig the small details they have, ie. magnetic power cord. Thanks folks.

Mostly will be used for gaming and porn.

A laptop is never going to be ideal for gaming. But if you want one, I'd get another Lenovo.

Dunno, but I'd check out Slick Deals and just keep an eye on all of the specials coming up in the next 6 weeks or so. Laptop deals are pretty frequent, and mostly it's discount codes for the different manufacturers so you can design it yourself. Like this one, although I'd shrink the HD and bump up the RPM speed, but that's just me.

Otherwise just start doing research on the games that you want to play, and the specs needed to play them. 4, 6 or 8gb ram, 1+gb video card, Ghz specs on the processer, etc. I haven't shopped for a computer for the last 2 years, and technology moves *way* too fast for any of the info I dug up then to be worth anything now.

I just bought a hard loaded, screaming fast Dell XPS 17 (L702x). Absolutely LOVE this laptop!! Depending on spec, somewhere between $2k-3k but if you buy through the outlet you can get it for less than $1k.

$1000-1500 buys you a heap of computer nowadays. If you want to spend that much one thing I'd put on my list is an SSD. Core i7, discrete graphics card, max out the RAM, still reckon you'd get in under $1000 somewhere.

Agree. My out the door price was just under $1K.
Mine came with:

2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7-2760QM processor 2.40 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.50 GHz
12GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 Memory
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M 3GB graphics with Optimus
17.3" FHD (1080p) with 2.0MP HD Webcam
JBL 2.1 Designed & Certified Speakers +Waves MaxxAudio® 3
8x DVD+/-RW (standard), Blu-ray Disc™ combo
Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6230 (2x2 agn+ Bluetooth)
2x500GB SATA III hard drives

Immediate plans are to go ahead and bump out the RAM to 16GB total and replace one of the hard drives with a Crucial M4 128GB SSD.

And it is a very nice looking unit, as well....very sleek! I will get pics when I get home tonight. One thing, if mobility is an issue, I would go for a similarly spec'ed XPS 15 (L502x). I would hate to lug around this 17". I kept my trusty D620 as a backup for when I need to truly be mobile.

If you're set on a gaming laptop check out this Sager: Sager NP8130 / Clevo P151HM1 - XOTIC PC

They must have just dropped the price on this recently, I almost bought this thing at $1300 with just a few upgrades a while back but canceled my order.

People say a laptop isn't ideal for gaming, but my 3 year old asus will still play most games on the almost highest setting with a few tweaks, exceptions being crysis, metro 2033, and probably battlefield.

yeah...you can get a beast of a PC for what you could only get a functional one for back in the day. I think our first PC was like $2500 or something, back when maddog mccraw and MYST were the big games. Oh how I came to loathe the Ensoniq soundscape soundcard...

I think I paid ~850 for my last PC, and it'll take on Metro 2033 on High but not ultra, and crushes anything else.

Grab yourself a bargain $3-500 lappy and you can play most anything you want to on it.
