He appears to round the bennd, see the cop and instantly lose concentration... dumping it and sliding across the road. Imagine if there had been oncoming traffic.

Say what? I'm a pretty cautious guy (at least on my moto) and I do that all the time. It's perfectly legal in California. Maybe not the safest thing ever, but neither is a lot of the stuff we do on two wheels.

Ok...so I was not splitting lanes that day...
It was about 7:15am and I was heading east bound towards oakland for work.
Traffic was flowing at about 30-40mph...
I was about 1 1/4 cars length behind a vehicle on the right side of the lane.
Out of no where the SUV in front of me SLAMS! on her brakes to a dead stop. I couldn't stop in time, couldn't cut out of my lane to split because I was afraid to get hit by traffic. I slam on my brakes, front and rear. My bike leaves a mark on the ground while I slowly but surely rearend the SUV causing me to flip over my handlebars and slam into the rear of the car. The bike flips over as well and lands on my left leg. I currently have a seperated shoulder, bruised leg, damaged front end of bike, and a bruised ego...I'm not sure whose fault it is but how should have I avoided this? And is this my fault? Because she filed a claim against my for damages to her vehicle.

I almost hit a guy yesterday who was lane splitting at 40 mph through a construction zone on the freeway. I did the over the shoulder look, checked my mirrors and started my lane change (with turn signal). One second it was clear, the next the guys in my blind spot

In my experience it about 50/50 of guys who do it safely and idiots who think they own the road. I don't hold all bikers responsible for this idiots stupidity
I totally agree. At most it's just a matter of degree. Some people think riding a mountain bike is too dangerous too. And if you stay home, your house could fall on you.
Was that video a joke? Or did that actually happen. It seems like too much of a Fail moment for it to be legit.
On a side note, it reminded me of Wiley Coyote when he got done with the painting of a road through a rock, then is standing looking at the rock when the roadrunner goes through, and the bus hits him.
