That is when you are in the large ring up front and the larger cogs in back, or small front and small back. It puts too much stress on your chain by bending the chain laterally, your drive chain will wear faster by doing this often :) .

Cross-gearing brings up use of proper shifting.

-I like to stay out of the 4 low gears while in the big ring.
-Use all the gears in the middle ring except the outer two unless I am anticiptating a regular shifting pattern.
-In the small ring I stay out of the high gears and out of the small ring when ever possible. (It breaks)

:monkey: You should be buying music instead of drugs.

guess that's why my chain broke 3 times in one day. i had no idea that this was bad. it is common for me to be in the small ring in front and be on the small ring in back too.

not only does it wear out the chain, but also the cogs and chain rings were out fast= no good. just use a 32or34 tooth front ring and you get the best all around combonations with a 11-34 tooth cog set. thats what i do, then use a bash gaurd and your all happy:)
