my dh/freeride bike is a single speed, and im wondering if it has to be geared to race downhill.. also im new to dh,

it doesn't "have" to be anything :huh:

but gearing helps (a lot)

Give her a go. You won't be competitive unless the course is steep. Race for fun and worry about gear if you want to get more serious.
