i looking at converting my current mtn bike into commuter/tourer when i get my new bike. anyway i'm thinking about running a 1x9 setup and i'm trying to figure out if i can run a 36 tooth chainring (104mm, 4 holes) in the middle chainring position (for best chainline). so i'm wondering if anyone out there is able to tell me what the diameter is, before i go out and buy/order one?

thanks :)

Half inch pitch chain x number of teeth
.5" x 36 = 18 inches circumference.

Divide by pi (3.14)

5.7 inches across (or so).
