When I think of it, that's only happened to me ONCE ever and my hanger was still there. It was my derailleur that snapped in half.

I am picking my Scream up from the shop today after having been admitted for the exact same problem plus 3 broken spokes and a Pringles(AKA Atomic)-brand out-of-true DHR rim.

same happened to me when i put my new rear wheel on...now i am using a '96 or so 7spd derailure i peiced together...works great on 9spd.

the biggest thing that eats derailleurs in Pisgah is twigs and random sticks in the trail from broken off limbs.
