Depends on your leg length and bb height. I am running 175 sugino's that tend to be bent a different direction whenever I check throughout the day. I may upgrade to some old square taper deores when these **** the bed. If I get a job, I might even buy some real cranks!!
I've got 175's on my Heckler, and they feel too long. The downhill bike has 170's on it, and they feel really nice, not too short, not too long. I'm 5'9", and I have no idea what my inseam is. There is no golden standard for crank length, so ride whatever fits you best. I'd guess anyone taller than like 5'11" or 6' should go for 175's. How tall are you?
I've ran 170s & 175s.....normally i'd say i run 170s...seems like a good medium to me. I didn't like the 175s when i had a bike w/ a short BB height...i'd catch the ground (when i'd pedal through turns)...but now that i've been running FS (& even HT) w/ a heigher BB height, i'd be more inclined to ride 175s. but in no way would i run anything outside that range.
170's for dual slalom - you get more clearance in turning and coming
out to pedal without clipping. Also slalom isn't bmx with long straits.
It is excellerating quickly out of turns so the 170's get up the speed quicker.
175's for MTX cause it is basically BMX on a MTB
