Glad to know they haven't improved corrosion resistance.2005 Mazda 3 hatch. Had some fun times in it on some great adventures, replaced a bunch of rear shock mounts and generally pounded it into the ground.
But god damn the thing literally rusted from the inside out.

Traded mine in before the rust got too bad. Funny that my new car (another Mazda) doesn't have (apparent) rust, except for the disc brakes...2005 Mazda 3 hatch. Had some fun times in it on some great adventures, replaced a bunch of rear shock mounts and generally pounded it into the ground.

From what I've read, they actually changed how the body panels are manufactured to do away with the rust problems. The generation of Mazda 3 after those don't have the same problem, nor did the last years of that first run. It really sucked, because other than the rust and rear shock mounts, the car was actually pretty decent. I didn't have to do anything to it other than oil changes.Traded mine in before the rust got too bad. And this shitbox, much like @canadmos's Mazda, rusted from the inside out. So we did a heart-transplant from the orange shitbox into one of these shitboxes:Glad to know they haven't improved corrosion resistance.
My "reliable" college auto (came immediately after the Spitfire) was one of these shitboxes:

And probably slower than a modern V6 Camry.fastest thing in a straight line.![]()
I think it ran low 14's. A Camry can certainly turn and stop a hell of a lot faster. Also leaked enough oil to fill a Camry, too.And probably slower than a modern V6 Camry.
The angularity of cars of that era is jarring. H had a similar Quaalude... which she endoed...
Yeah I remember the shock in the motoring circles when into the midst of all those hard lines Ford lobed the "Jelly mold" Ford Sierra. The angularity of cars of that era is jarring. H had a similar Quaalude... which she endoed...
My 1954 Ford did that, used to carry a one gallon can of Gulf motor oil...Hand me down '86 Chevy Blazer. Damn thing burned as much oil as gas.
Dunno what a Geo Metro is, I think I learned in a Rover Metro. So far I'm surprised that no one has owned either a Chevette, Geo Metro or any sort of Cavalier. Though that Beretta is pretty close haha.
Not really. Body wise it was in good shape and straight, but it was a mechanical nightmare. 5000 miles of 20+ year old California emissions vacuum tubing and some previous owners electrical hackery meant it was pretty unreliable. If I could have it back the first thing I'd do is rip it all out and start completely over. I need to dig around and see if I can find my pictures of it.Nice first ride
A 2018 Camry will do it in 14.3.I think it ran low 14's. A Camry can certainly turn and stop a hell of a lot faster. Also leaked enough oil to fill a Camry, too.![]()
To be fair you'd have to compare it to an '86 Camry (I learned to drive in an '85 Camry). Not sure my '72 is still on the road.A 2018 Camry will do it in 14.3.
Just looking at that pic, I can smell the after effects of leaky t-tops and malt liquor meshed as one.Dayum... Jeremy must have been a baller in high school!![]()
I can only imagine that a long flowing mullet was also involved.Just looking at that pic, I can smell the after effects of leaky t-tops and malt liquor meshed as one.
