Everyone knows of the great BCD 29er DH bike, but I was looking for a SS 29er for XC and Commuting and I began thinking: what company(if any) will be the first to make a full production (not a one-off frame) 29er DH bike?
all of this 29" crap makes me want to vomit.I'm putting 36ers on my dh bike...booooyaaaa
 Good thing the motocrossers didn't think this way when things were shifting from 19 to 21" front wheels.all of this 29" crap makes me want to vomit.
someone hasnt been following the bcd lineup, or the mountain biking community at all for that matter.originally posted by RD

i would say intense too.I would think it would be more Socom-esque, considering a 29er doesn't need anywhere near the travel of an M6 (new name).
Just because people are making some sort of bike doesn't mean you have to like it.someone hasnt been following the bcd lineup, or the mountain biking community at all for that matter.
Yeah man, you have to keep your bike wheels at least 6" bigger than your car wheelssomeone hasnt been following the bcd lineup, or the mountain biking community at all for that matter.
Please tell Intense to cease and desist on that 69er ASAFP.Intense DH 29er, coming soon.....and maybe a 69er...stay tuned to those guys, so much cool stuff coming.
Apples to Oranges. You just can't compare the moto change from 19" to 21" front to a change from 26" to 29" wheels on mountain bikes. I know it seems like it could be compared but the 21" changeover satisfied several real needs for MX, whereas 29ers, well, they have not proven superior and don't really address any "needs" at this time. Good thing the motocrossers didn't think this way when things were shifting from 19 to 21" front wheels.
the ONLY issues with 29ers in dh are tires, sticky mud.I can imagine 29ers will do good on a downhill track with no (tight) corners but we dont have a lot of those in Europe...
BCD how are your experiances with 29er cornering abilitys compared to 26ers?
us married guys wouldn't know how to ride one of those anymore............and maybe a 69er...stay tuned to those guys, so much cool stuff coming.
Hopefully, they catch on just like 24's did all those years ago.
FAD.
Exactly...Moto went from 19's with high side walled tires to 21's with MUCH lower sidewalls, hence less flex and more power to the ground as 1 big advantage.I know it seems like it could be compared but the 21" changeover satisfied several real needs for MX, whereas 29ers, well, they have not proven superior and don't really address any "needs" at this time.
i third that motion,Agreed.
Tell me BCD just wants to stand out. He is a pro racer experimenting with the advantages and disadvantages of different setups. If anything, he gets flamed all the time for what he's doing.People just want to be different and stand out, I guess.
Yeah MikeD had a good time on the 69er, only took two rides...29'rs huge in xc.
People feel safer on them IMO.
Most people who ride them xc have no interest in going fast or taking any chances what so ever on a bike......
29'ers are make it easier to roll over thoose 6 inch ledges at 1 MPH....
MikeD said:So I rode again today, and trashed a bunch of guys on loaded Bullits down the techy local trail...until the last waterbar, when my 29" wheel folded upon landing, jammed in my fork, and sent me wildly otb before I knew wtf was up.
Screw 29" wheels. They are NOT strong enough for how I'm riding. Definitely weaker than 26" wheels...in practical as well as theoretical terms. Not to say they're bad, but not good for me.
I like the rigid thing, though...but I don't want my HA any steeper when I switch back to a 26" (and isn't it awesome that I cut up an old 26" wheel to get the hub for my 29?). MMcG, still have that long Zion fork??
Trashed my body up pretty good, destroyed a nice jersey, killed my front brake, and ruined my ride today. Grrrr.
...
Salsa Delgado Disc rim, 14g spokes.
Never had a stiffness issue...don't think a 20mm would matter much...the only one I knew of was Woodman, anyhow, and I'd rather have a steel qr fork than an AL fork of any kind. Ed: The Funn cromo weighs 4.7 lbs!!!! Holy crap.
Zion is pretty cheap, so I'll probably just pick one of them up if the 26" turns out to be as steep as I think it will be.
It was a fun experiment until the end...pity it only took two rides for it to happen. Now I need to find ways to keep these abrasions from seeping through my shirt onto my suit...there's really too much to bandage. And I need to find a cocktail fork for my left pinky, since it kinda looks like a Vienna sausage.

Yeah MikeD had a good time on the 69er, only took two rides...
Where do you get this stuff? Sidewall/casing profiles did not change in the switch from 19s to 21s. And, in fact, sidewall height probably increased slightly in the small-displacement classes as the standard went from a 2.75 up to a 3.00.Exactly...Moto went from 19's with high side walled tires to 21's with MUCH lower sidewalls, hence less flex and more power to the ground as 1 big advantage.
I'm with you on that count. Larger front/standard rear seems like a good combo....but am I the only one who thinks it would only make sense on to do a front 29/rear 26 combo...not both.
See 650B at Interbike....Maybe 29 is too much of a jump? Could the advantages of a larger-diameter front be accomplished with a 27.5 or 28? (set aside for a moment the fact that they don't exist - - I'm asking in purely hypotheticals).
Coming from one of the only people with actual experiance, that sounds pretty promising.the ONLY issues with 29ers in dh are tires, sticky mud.
they can be ridden in tight corners and if they are a little
slower in 5 corners VS the whole track, they are well worth
it. i am upping travel on my next bike to 7 f-r.
everything has its haters, it will be awesome to see what happens
in the next few years with them.
thanks, b/c i waz about to come up there and pop a cap.............NOTE- I am not typing sarcastic comments to bring down BCD, I think what he is doing is cool and experimentation should pretty much always be applauded if there is some real format being followed. I purely just dont like the idea of a change to 29" wheels.
It wasn't my idea, he suggested a 27.5, just mentioning its already coming out at Interbike...this guy, IMO is off his rocker.
Well, I'll be . . . hush my mouth.
