I know fox went through a stage of creaking, and my 36s have just started, out of warranty and cant afford a new CSU. Anyone found a way of quietening them down?

I had this happen to me almost exactly a year ago, but my fork was still under warranty. I called Fox and they didn't offer any suggestions other than to send it back to them. They ended up replacing the entire stanchion/crown/steerer assembly.

what he said, it's the only fix for them - it was just their turn to have an issue

Why not give them a call. A lot of companies will back up products after warranty expires.
