Looking at the pictures from above, is the very outer "plate" or "bash ring" even necessary? (besides for hitting logs)
Maybe it's ugly without it?

so could you fix your rear hub with hammerschmidt?

could it fit smaller than a 22t?

I did just that. For ****s and giggles I zip tied my PG990 cassette to my spokes and went for a spin in the lot... It was actually pretty neat. I could shift while coasting but not pedaling backwards (obviously). I wouldn't ever hit the trails with it....

The HS will only fir the two supplied rings due to how they mount and I don't think there is enough room to go any smaller.

i was wondering if you could trace out the key on the supplied rings, you could machine up a custom ring smaller than 22t and made from ti. and also run a fixed gear in the rear. but probably not.

It will not freewheel so its not fixed gear compatible
