Three reasons: the frame is a bit regressive at the end. The bike is already a heavy tank - I often ride with dudes on dentist bikes that are 10 lbs lighter and a coil shock would make my handicap harder. Last but not least, the bike feels real good with an air shock.

just be sure what tune you need for your bike
found out that even with all the settings the the x2 has, you still need to shim it for low tune,
it comes default as M\M tune.
Bit of a necro bump here, but... what shock are you talking about (i.e. coil or air)? I've got the Float X2 on my 26 DH bike. It's a bit mushy even at higher pressures. Is there some other tune available I don't know about? What's the M/M thing people are referring to?
