I'm not sure if they will fit your description but here is the stuff i have been listening to lately and really liking:

She Wants Revenge (not emo)
Nightmare of you (not emo) sounds like it though
Thursday
Arctic Monkeys
Rise Against
Hundred Reasons To Kill Your Own
Mew
clutch

All real good rockish/punk stuff IMO (i hate pushin music into categories)...check em out.
anyone else think that the She Wants Revenge vocalist is more more monotone than Ben Stein? I want to gouge my eyes out...
Arctic Monkeys have talent, but not my taste really

The National - if you like Mike Ness you might like this guy.
Aqueduct - creative catchy indie, not emo.
The Divorce - don't know much about them but saw them in concert a while back and liked them.
The New Pornographers - not punk, but they're new and I like them.
Maserati - from what I've heard, if you like Mogwai, you'll like these guys.
If you have any interest in Death Cab for Cutie, then check out Postal Service and All-time Quarterback too.

Most of my tastes are for the older time tested stuff, Tom Waits, Mogwai, Social D, Ramones, Dropkick Murpheys, Pixies, the Flaming Lips early to mid-90's alternative (Smashing Pumpkins, REM, Pearl Jam, Cranberries, and even U2 *gasp!*) and non-emo/screamo indie (Pedro the Lion, Damien Jurado, DCFC, Minus the Bear, Sufjan Stevens)

I saw one of their vids on a local music video channel, and I thought it was a joke...

I'm still not convinced...
OK, be aware I haven't gone through all these threads, but Turbonegro's "Apocolypse Dudes" album is pretty amazing for the music and the incredible adult like approach to fairly amusing topics such as anal sex.

In the newer rock arena, I was put off a bit by the new(ish) Hellacopters album - a bit to oclean except for the bonus tracks.
I would go for Cream of the Crap Vol's I and II if you end up looking into them.

That is his gig, i just saw them live and he just pulls it off, no jumping around just real focused, i think the delivery is perfect...

to each his own.

Derek Smalls: "Nowadays we are more intelligent in our lyrics - we take a very sophisticated point of view. A perfect example is our latest number "Sex farm" "

Interviewer: "So you take a more sophisticated point of view by doing it on a sex farm?"

Smalls: "Exactly."

Don't get me started! I will start singing Sex Farm! Oh no, here it comes!

Sex farm woman, I want to mow you down!
Sex farm woman, I'll rake and hoe you down!
Sex farm woman, don't you feel my saddle rising high-igh-iggghhhh!

btw, i always heard 'saddle' as 'silo'.
I should look up the lyrics! I have the LP tucked away somewhere at home!

Yes, ST were clearly 'ahead of their time' so to speak. I have a friend who saw it in the theater in Queens when it came out with a bunch of metalheads. They didn't find the movie amusing at all..."Wut, I don ged it!"

stinky,

if you haven't checked out "the music genome" project, you may want to! you can enter a bands name you like, and they will suggest others that are similar.

try Pandora.com

also try The Secret Machines

For those that like the "Arctic Monkeys" you may want to check out Clearlake

Working on a sex farm
Trying to raise some hard love
Getting out my pitch fork
Poking your hay

Scratching in your henhouse
Sniffing at your feedbag
Slipping out your back door
Leaving my spray

Sex farm woman, I'm gonna mow you down
Sex farm woman, I'll rake and hoe you down
Sex farm woman, don't you see my silo rising high?

Working on a sex farm
Hosing down your barn door
Bothering you livestock
They know what I need

Working up a hot sweat
Crouching in your pea patch
Plowing through your beanfield
Planting my seed

Sex farm woman, I'll be your hired hand
Sex farm woman, I'll let my offer stand
Sex farm woman, don't you hear my tractor rumbling by?

Working on a sex farm
Trying to raise some hard love
Getting out my pitch fork
Poking your hay

Absolute classic, I remember being so confused going into it trying to decide if they were a real band or just a fake band. I came out with the same question but had laughed so hard that it didn't really matter anymore.
