Before I start jabbering about it, I know all you really want are pics, so here are two to satisfy your Fix.

It is a Medium (17in).
Overall, the bike seems like it is totally SOLID.
Not too heavy though. I'm going to the shop later today for a weigh-in.

The first batch is coming with HAyes's top of the line DH brakes (with razor-rock style levers) b/c the El Camino's were not available. Cool... They will probably stop me better anyway. ;)

The stock spring is 300lb, but DW says that it is better w/ a lighter spring b/c all the spring does is soak up bumps. You don't need it to counter any of the pedaling forces. OH, and it is steel. IF you want Ti, you will probably have to go up to a 325.

The one thing that I wanted to ask you :monkey:'s about was the 823 rims.

I'm not usre if they are the 2004s or 5's. They don't have a little "lip", but there is a groove about a half cm from the edge. Right in the middle of the breaking surface (if you were using rim brakes.. which no one will ;) )

Here is a pic with a cross section I drew.

Anyone know what year they are? not that it matters...

more pics...

Oh, and the paint job on the bike is SWEET.
It isn't a flat black. There seem to be metalic flakes in it.
I'll get some better shots when we get some sun.

Also, as you can tell, the Heattube area looks burly as He11.
I'd like to see someone break THAT!

I had a ride on it last October at Interbike.
And I've been jonseing ever since.

It pedals AWESOME
The bottom bracket is a little too high for a DH race bike, but it allows you to pedal over a lot of stuff w/o hitting your pedals.
The chainstay seemed pretty short, which was cool b/c you could manual it EASILY. Or at least pull it up easily, as I can't manual worth Sheite. :dead:

If you lower the fork for the climbs though, the front stays pretty planted.

All in all, it was exactly what I was looking for.

I'm going to put on some lighter tires, a little longer stem, and lighter cranks though since I'll be using this as a burly trail bike, and stock it is more set up for north Shore style riding.

BB, would you mind getting a closeup of these Hayes MAG BFL's? I've never heard of em before and am curious.

That bike looks great! I really like the metallic touch to that black paint! :thumb:

It reminds me of the best paint job I've ever seen.
I had an old Arrow DS-3 (Sandwich has it now) and it had a paintjob that was a blue with tons of rainbow metalic flakes in it.

When the sun hit it, it would sparkle like crazy. YOu almost couldn't tell where the actual surface was b/c it was all 3-D.

People said it looked like a trout. ;)

Back in Lousiana where I come from, we call that bass-boat-black! Feel free to add a B@d@$$ in front of that! :p

Wow! Very nice!! ARe you going to sell your Hollowpoint or keep it??

I'll probably put a longer stem, and the air fork back on it. Make it into a real XC rig. Right now, it has a Vanilla 125 with a 70mm stem, 2.3/2.25 setup.

I couldn't get enough $$ to make up what it is really worth.

Just like you got a GREAT deal buying one, the guy selling it got very little for a great bike/frame.

If you were to consider selling it, Stosh would probably buy it from you. Just an FYI.

I'm not sure of the year, but I do know that the little groove is a wear line. Some European agency mandated that all rims that could be used with rim-brakes have that wear-line in them, so you know when it's time to replace them.
It's cheaper to just make 1 rim, not just a "US" rim, so if you look at just about all the bikes out there, they'll all have that little groove in the rim.
Just my 2 cents.
Bike looks FANTASTIC though! Congrats!

Like the "bong" sound when it was time for the next slide in a slide show in elementary school!
"The wildebeast is a social creature."
<bong>
"Here we have a heard, drinking from one of the last water holes in late spring."
<bong>

Heh heh heh...

Looks nice, but for the increased prices this year it'd be nice to see some Fox and Marzocchi suspension products on those bikes. Especially considering that IH has told me a few times how bad the manitou DU bushings are....

Personally i like the 5th/breakout setup. Feels pretty darn plush to me. Come on jm you know you want a full out Rock shox bike with lots o motion control

That is DUMB... Won't that make the rim weaker and allow it to dent easier?

I don't think so, at least, not really by a big amount. It's the Gov't anyway, not much we can do about it...
WEAR LINES FOR ALL!
