Bought a used set of hayes 8 inch rotors and adapters a couple days ago and the rear mounted up just fine but the front adapter is nearly twice as wide as the original 6" adapter and won't fit between the fork and rotor. I'm tempted to pull out the grinder and shave it down since it would cost as much for a new rotor as I spent on the whole set up. Any suggestions?

I think you got an adapter that is specific to the old Boxxers. You need a regular front IS-to-8" post adapter. Between $6 & $10.
