Hayes calipers w/ Shimano rotors??

Just wondering if using Shimano rotors with Hayes calipers is a big deal? Looks like the braking surface on the Shimano's is not as wide as the Hayes. Any loss of power, or will the pads just wear a little funny?
Thanks.:)

I wouldn't do that, like you said your pads would wear all messed up (it wouldn't be funny). Avid rotors and a few others are pretty much interchangable with Hayes though.

I know people who have done that, but I think you answered your own question. Pad wear would probably be off a bit. I don't know about the swept area of a shimano disc versus a Hayes being different. The depth is less on a Shimano but it might have the same amount of material in there because it has smaller holes than a Hayes rotor.
