ok, first this is my first ever bike build. i have been waiting for ages to put it all together, so in a hasty and stupid move i decided to hammer the headset in myself using wood and a mallet. now the headset is in but i don't know if the frames had even been faced and reamed. have i ruined my bike?

Why don't you have a seat over there?

I'm no pro, but I bet things will be fine. If the headset doesn't feel smooth or if you can't keep things tight etc you might have a problem. I doubt that you will though. Hammer and wood is how I used to install headsets on my BMX bikes BITD.

Just let a tech do the headset. Its probably your safest bet, everything else should be ok to do.

yeah dude, take it to a shop and let them remove and re-seat those cups to be safe. you really don't want to develop any play in your front end. then you really will kill your frame.
