the crank is stripped, so tap and die is not an option anymore....
so rather than just buck up and spend a lot of money now for some new (needed) crankarms i want to have a temporary fix in place by sunday so i can go riding, dammit!

talking with some folks around town, and reading some info seems like a helicoil will get me by for long enough to be able to ride.

but before i go this route....what size helicoil do i need, and what size drill bit is needed to drill the crankarm?

these are fsa cranks

Unior makes a tap and threaded insert set that your LBS can get from QBP. It's pretty pricey and not really appropriate for someone just trying to fix a single crankarm (it comes with six left hand inserts and six right hand inserts). Check with some shops near you and see if they've got one. We've got one at our shop and it is pretty slick. The tap has a built in reamer, so there's no drilling. You just turn it through the crank arm and it enlarges the pedal hole and threads it for the insert. Put in the insert and you're done.:clapping:
