so I've got a hope number 8 caliper M4 the older silver style with the pro lever. My buddy has a 40 on his bike and wants to buy my brakes. Is there any way to adapt this brake to that fork? I'm pretty sure there's not but it's worth asking.

yes, and I have one lying around it's for sale!
The 40 takes a #5 Hope caliper to run a 205mm rotor which is a XC size (normally it would be equivalent to a 165mm front rotor). I believe Hope still makes 225mm rotors that will work on the 40. Call Hope to see if they still exist. 1-800-303-6863
