That will be a fun race. My GF and I rode up a chunk of the OGR from Lyell during our NZ trip last November.

Getting dropped at the top and just having to race all the way to the bottom would be a blast.

3 friends in my neck of the woods have Specialized Enduros and just rave about them, one has an alloy 26er with some fancy shock upgrade, another has the alloy 29er, and the other has the Sworks 29er.

The 26er guy uses his for trail riding enduro and a bit of DH on his. The 2 guys with the 29ers use them mostly for trail riding and even XC racing. One of them is a top 3 in the state cat 1 XC guy (so they obviously work for every discipline).

Oh, and Hi... thought I'd pop in for a minute :)

Well the timed stages where I was going full speed added up to 1hr 19min or so from Ghost lake hut to Lyell.
But including untimed stages maybe 2 and a half hours 95% of which is descending.

Doing this race again tomorrow morning.
Stopped for a coffee at St Arnaud on the way there, lovely wee alpine lake.... super friendly eels.

Also just came across this vid of the far end of the trail (it's 85km long) which I've not ridden yet.

Closest thing to that around here are the Downieville shuttles Town is at 1900' shuttle drop is at 7500' shortest route back to town is 16 miles with only 500' of climbing, all singletrack. My favorite is about 20 miles with a 1000' of climbing at the 6 mile mark
