So...I bought a set of 2007 Dura Ace wheels off a teammate and I love them; The wheels are stiff, light and fast in general. Here is the problem though, in three outings I've had two flats and the tires seat so damn tight (that has its +/-) that I can't get them unseated without big metal levers (that I don't carry). I'm running kevlar tires with tubes, anyone else have this problem with these wheels? I used the tires on the previous wheelset without a problem. I guess I might have to bite the bullet and buy the tubeless tires.

In another thread, someone gave me advice that was obvious, but I had forgotten/overlooked, so here's some...

Did you run a finger along the inside of the rim around the rim tape? Maybe you've got a little piece of metal or glass in there causing problems?

PS: If you do, don't whine about a splinter you just got :D

If you can't unseat your clincher tires by hand then you have the wrong tire/rim combination. :)
Its a tubeless rim, tires fit really tight for that reason. I did check the tire for stuff and its clean. What happens is I'll hit a crack and the tire pops. Its almost like the wheelset is so stiff that there is no absorption. My previous wheelset was flexy and cheap and I never flatted

How worn are they?

I really like how the Hutchinsons I had a few years back handled, but they wore out pretty quickly and flats became exponential with each unnoticed thread stripped away.

They're not too bad, probably about half way through their life. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and spend the dough to get the tubeless tires. I was going to wait till next season, but avoiding the hassle of flats is worth the money

One thing I forgot to mention, when you flat on these wheels they never roll the tire. I've got about ten miles of riding on them with a flat tire and the wheels still handle really well....I was blown away

My own world inside my head
I'm running some POS Hutchinson tires....I bought them on clearance for $10
there is the first problem, too low of a thread count, not the ost resistant tire, My suggestion is to go ahead and get the tubless, or go with something like teh Vittoria Diamonte pro, 220 TPI. I havent gotten a flat since I started running them, Fast rolling tire, very supple, feels extremly connected to the road, easy to install on any wheel, Even the DA tubeless you have, also stick with a standard tube instead of the UL. I know they are heavier, but they hold up better than the Ultralights

Actually, shoot me a PM too, I might have something up your alley if you wanted to go back to air-filled tires...
Thanks man! Most appreciated.

But...

1. I'm almost exclusively riding 26" now (700c single-speed is airfree).
2. I don't want to bother you.
3. If I was to bother you once, I'd rather save that kindness for something that can't be purchased some where. I'll wait for a unique low production run of something cool :D

1) I have both 26" and 700c in tires.
2) I offered.
3) Honestly, I would like more people out there riding these things on commutes/around town. They kick arse over in the Netherlands, just trying to get more folks here on them. Consider it market research, not a gift, does that make it more palatable? :)
3.5) The low production stuff goes on *my* bike...:lighten:
