Just built it up. 3 hours to completely strip my other bike, and build this one up. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but I'm not the fastest at doing this kind of stuff. I look foward to eating later tonight, although staring at the bike is kind of filling.

Still a little work to be done, gotta cut the steerer back down and the seatpost, get a new chain and front shifter cable.

XT cranks
XT rear derailer
XT bottom bracket
LX shifters
Sram 9.0 front derailer
Cane Creek C2
Thomson seatpost
Serfas Arc Ti saddle
Hayes Mags
F519 rims
XT rear hub
Marzocchi front hub
Shiver SC
Legeaters
Azonic CF-1 carbon fiber bar
Ritchey pro stem

It's an XC to trail bike.

And here's the reason I got the foes. To eliminate side-loading as much as possible. Shocks and me don't get along so good.

It's gunna get something, but probably an SPV, due to it being a mono-pivot.

not with the wheels...I didn't tell the other part of the story with the wheels, about the front revolution spokes, and alloy nipples (rear spokes are sensable competitions). I don't think those wheels would hold up for any length of time doing that. Also, big air and the carbon bar are probably not the best combo.

With some changes it could do it though. Foes has a new 4x frame out now, it's the same as the FXR, but a little different geometry and seat-tower, supposedly the same weight though.

Thanks for the comments.

What's the weight with the Shiver SC up front??
I think it's an 03. I got it new for 1400, when brand new 04s go for 1700, also the rear clearence on the 03 is tighter, and that seems to be what I have. I can fit a 2.3 in there no prob, but more than that is not going to be possible, not that I need anything that big on this bike.

Shiver SCs are about 5lbs. Hopefully one of these days I can get something like a fox vanilla, the new 20mm fox vanilla, or something of the sort.

What I like is how frame-stiffness is a top-priority for these things. It's like all of the frames are now DH Mono knockoffs, in that they have a triangulated rear, with some sort of swing or scissor link. Virtually impossible to side-load the shock, and makes for an extremely stiff rear end. At this point, that is what I think I need based on the shocks I've been through. Even the FXC (out of production) had that little swing-link in there.

The hard part is trying to read this damn book for literature class while I'm sitting in front of this damn foes...

I also wanted to try a white frame :D

End of the month, but I ain't going back to california. I'm going to do summer school to finish up my degree, then I'm going to flight instruct out here.

I sure do like some of the rides up there, like downieville, and the mtbr heavenly-TRT-to-Toads and down ride, AKA "toads the hard way", and even though it sucks climbing at 10,000ft, it's one of those things that I'd fly out to do if I had the means (or money). They just need to work on getting more trails in the sierra foothills...

I doubt it, it's possible that I might make a trip back sometime in the summer during one of the 2 week breaks, but I really don't know.

Gunna have to keep myself occupied with south mountain (well that's not really an option starting about now), Flagstaff, etc...Bootleg will probably be too hot as well, but it's still hard to complain.

We are going to a place about 1 hour east of phoenix this weekend called globe. We're gunna camp out on the top of the mountain, its 7500 to 8000 feet up there, descend into the town of gobe at like 3000 feet, these are around 15 miles shuttles, crazy fun stuff, lots of ways down the mountain. It's one of our AZ "secrets".

so this is to replace the void left when Yeti told you to wait till the second run of AS-X's came out last year??? The Foes looks nice, if they weren't so pricy I'd have one myself. Me thinks ye needs a curnutt shock with a ti spring on a bike like that though and maybe a fox talas, it could easily be under 30lbs.

Supposed to be 28.5 like I have it built. Things like my carbon bar, leg-eaters, light wheels, and stuff are pretty reasonable, the two big sources of weight on it are the shiver and the XT rear hub. It's not a heavy ride, at least compared to what I'm used to.

This is not to fill that void...the SGS fills that void :D This is moving more towards XC for me though, because of the ultra-long rides I tend to do, so any way I can drop weight, even when compared to the azonic, is good. 5" seems to be plenty for this use, and since I blow shocks like a vegas hooker blows.......well the foes is one of the few frames in this class that actually "does something" about this.

It'll probably get some kind of SPV upgrade...not sure what yet.

That's what you get for bringing it into the library with you! :D That [p]leather chair sure does look comfy.

Good looking rig.

Very, very nice.

Of course, it needs an Avalanche and some Hope M6's... ;)

You should consider getting something like an Onyx rear hub - they're pretty damn cheap (~$130 I believe), and will cut some of that nasty, boat anchor, rear XT hub weight.

Keep us updated on how you like it...

Porn. There has been a recent uprising against persons that use that word in the titles of threads that show their shiny new bikes and/or bike parts.

Consensus is that the word should be reserved for it's traditional use. Perhaps it's so that a ridemonkey thread with Giant's sweet Alumax tricycle, titled 'Kiddie bike porn', doesn't show up in Michael Jackson's google search. :D

I hear you on the XC thing. I built my 5-spot up at 28.5 with big tires. I just put some 2.1 Hot s tires on it and weighed it at 27.5!
That is with 5 inches of coil travel front and rear.
I say me and you keep a list of all the parts that we break this year!;)

You won't be able to buy anything SPV for the bike other than a Curnutt. Push can valve the low-speed compression out of your Fox, or you can get a Romic valved the same way, but neither Progressive or Manitou makes a shock to fit the FXR frame.

Yep, that is the idea, although who knows about the manitou evolover or fox DHX...at least yet.
