Well this bike went straight from being built to a night ride with Tweek, Crashby, and Mtbkngrl. So by the time I got around to taking a pic, it had already been dirty and clean again.

Here she is

SingleSpeeder's are insane in my book, but then i realized you don't have any real mountains on the east coast, so i guess you're only mildly disturbed. ;)

I couldn't believe how much fun it was to ride! We were on a pretty good trail for SS, only 2 sections I didn't make. With some work I think I can get them both. I let Tweek try it out, and he proceeded to school me on one climb that kicked my ass :mumble:

I think this bike is gonna see a lot of miles

Nice! There a lot of single speeders over yonder?
They seem to be gaining popularity just recently. If Kona hadn't taken so long to get the frame, I could have been on the leading edge! But instead I'm just a bandwagon jumper :D

All the SSr's here in Hawaii ride with Aloha Single Speeders stickers on their bikes. They say A.S.S real big on them.

Damn - that's nice! much better than my (slightly ghetto in comparison!) kona singlespeed... great fun though, and it's quite amazing what you can climb, and how fast you can do it, when the option of shifting down is removed.

Yeah. It was pretty amusing on the lap I borrowed it. I'm used to thinking ahead about where and when I have to shift, then it was like... well I can't upshift for this corner, guess I'll just PEDAL! ...can't downshift for this hill, I better PEDAL! :D

WORD :D

It was pretty funny, I rarely pass people, but I kept having to go around people because I needed to keep my speed up or I'd be done :p

I didn't take any, but this is from the Kona website... the actual color of the frame is quite a bit darker than it appears on the website.

ya SS is fun but if you're a big dude like me (200lbs) you won't want to do too much climbing on it unless you want to blow out your knees bro...looks sweet though :)

I've climbed plenty of fireroads up "real" mountains in the west... I'll take east cost trails with real technical challenges thanks ;)

I always laugh when I hear this. Left coasters tend to think that when you climb a mountain that tops out at like 8000' and then ride down it that they climbed a 8000' mountain. When in actuality the base elevation is like 5500' give or take. There is very little riding that I have personally seen that is at alpine or sub alpine conditions (except for a few passes here and there). So the usable riding at elevation is generally below 6000'/7000' in most areas that I have been to except Utah (and other exceptions). We in turn get to climb mostly on singletrack, we climb up and over our "hills", then down the otherside to just climb the next "hill". On a average ride in Bristol you can get 3000' to 4000' of climbing in a ride sometimes more. Plus we have better extended technical singletrack IMO. I just love riding the ridges around here. So we don't have real mountains, but we have better trails IMO. Plus they are closer to home for most of us. We don't have park rangers with radar guns either.....jdcamb

Damitall, Echo that is a sweet bike. I built one o' them damn SS things too, but it really isn't picture worthy. And it is quite possibly the worst handling mountain bike I've ever ridden. Must be something to do with an early 90's frame with a 100mm fork. Anyway, if I wuz you, I'd switch that Float with the Talas on your Blur.

Hey jd, I hear what you are saying, and I agree to a certain extent. BUT, I grew up there, and where I live now, I can assure you that there are more legal trails and larger mountains withing 20 miles of me than there are within 20 miles of you. That's not to say one is better than the other, just different, both fun, and that's okay. And, I just can't think of any rides in Rochester that have a ten mile climb followed by a seven mile singletrack descent.

Nope we don't have them. And they are cool. I have experienced them and plan on going back. We have a 1 mile climb, follwed by a 1 mile descent, if that. But we can spread them out easier is all. I would love to have those seven mile descents, but you can keep the 10 mile climbs though ;).

In all the time I spent out west (limited I must say) I never rode a trail with a climb as steep and technical as the climb at say Stid Hill across from Bristol Mountain. Because of the land restrictions our climbs tend to be steeper and harder because they go straight up the hill. Whereas out west where you have more public (available) land to actually build trails that kind of soften the blow of those climbs. Like Echo said I would rather have a singletrack climb then a fire road climb anyday. I think I need to go out west with a better guide :thumb: ....jdcamb

Dude the bike looks awesome. Your going to have to let me take it out for a proper beating. I just had a cowan set-up for the old lady out at Trailblazer's. They did such a nice job that the specialist's collecting dust and my woman cant ride because I'm always on her bike. In an unrelated topic I've scouted several new homes for us to invade so we all need to get together soon and start making some decisions.

So is that going to be your excuse at Dalton Echo ? we all will have gears and you don't ?

also Is that frame MAde with Being a Single speed in Mind ? or did you just decide that was how you were going to build it ?

I only ask that because the Picture of the drop outs has a Derailer hanger on it ?

Actually depending on the course, the singlespeed might be faster :sneaky: It f*cking RIPS up hills.

It was definitely planned to be a singlespeed from the get go. They make different dropouts, those are just the ones that came with it. I might order the SS dropouts, or maybe get matty's, or maybe just have my buddy who works in a machine shop take off the hanger, or maybe just leave it like it is... so many options :p
