My I-6 4.0 liter grand cherokee lifted on 32's and a ARB bumper gets about 14-15mpg avg. But then again I guess I'm not a good person to ask. The V8's get OK gas mileage but not great, I can't remember what we were getting with that jeep but it was better than mine for sure.

Compared to what? :D

They're gas guzzlers, but I've heard nothing but good things about them from people who own them. Although with gas prices as high as they are right now, I would personally be looking into a hybrid or, oh, i dunno... maybe a bike?

My 91 Cherokee limited 6 cyl. 4.0HO gets about 25-35 highway and 15-20 city, a lot depends, long road trips to races strangely enough even fully loaded I get pretty damn good mileage.

My Cherokee is a 95 lifted with 31's and I get about 17-19mpg. Before the lift I got about 22mpg.
I would recomend a Jeep to anyone. Mine has been more than reliable. It now has 180,000 miles on it. Original Clutch and I have never had to replace anything that wasn't a wear item.

Oh bye the way, if you do get a grand or any other jeep for that matter get the 4.0 liter 6cyl. The motor is built like a tank and will run forever provided you do some regular oil changes on it.

If you were to get a grand, get the 318 if 93-98, and 4.7 in the later years. The ZJ's weigh like 3800 or so, and I recall XJ's being quite a bit lighter. Hence, the great gas mileage in those with the 4.0's and boxy square bodies. Eh, Grand Chickorees V8 or I6 get close mileage. So far most that I've spoken to wish they had the V8 because the 6 is a dog on the freeway, but plenty torquey enough if you're into wheelin.

Fer the record, I think mine had around 18mpg on the freeway when new. Now I'm 2 tire sizes up and I still get around 16-17 on the freeway. It's not horrible. I try to avoid driving in the city so I can't tell you about that ;)

You lookin at anything? I can give you a couple things to look out for.

Dead serious, best it was ever at was 34 for a road trip. I keep a log of it and have since we bought it. Need to sit down and calculate the MPG again but its always done well on highway, in town... different story, can be good can be CRAPPY
