thinking of getting a set, but that part that wraps around your leg above the knee looks like it would move around a lot and be really annoying. any feedback? oh, also, I'm 5'10", average length legs. these are one size fits all. how does that work out?
I picked these up at the beginning of this season. The part that wraps around the knee really isn't that floppy. I can't remember exactly what they look like, but they're slightly different (as far as my memory serves...) than that picture. They're better than last years' model that's for sure.
I do believe that the LZ's look more akin to this:
In all but the most tech/gnar/sloppy/gonna-crash situations I run the LZMX dealies.
And mine are black...but you can go pink if that's what you're into....
These are by far the best race/comfy/coolest pads I've owned. EVAR. I'm 6'7" with long legs so the LZMX's leave about 6-7" between bottom of pad to top of shoe... They're shorter by about 3" than the Landing Zones...(LZMX = Large LZ = One size) The top of the LZMX's are a fishnet type deal that secures well up your thigh for good anti-slippage.
All that said, the LZ's are great at protecting the whole lower leg and knee area.

Not one bit. The upper part that straps around the thigh is a life saver. I just put 'em on and forget about 'em. I can go a whole day at Whistler without ever having to adjust them. It rulz.
I've even had a few get offs that were of the knee sliding variety and they stayed put.
Last year's LZ's slipped a bit for me. This year's are much improved in that department.

Which model is that? I haven't seen that before and it's on the RockGardn website? That being said, I think I like the layout of those and would like to get my hands on them...

I think that was a pre-production Landing Zone. How they actually came out are in my first post. Closest you'll get to the look of that one pictured in the original posters post is the LZMX.
I pulled that picture off Universalcycles.com. Apparently they are trying to clear out the '06 version.
Squirrel, if you wouldn't mind can you post a pic of the back side of LZMX? I'd like to see the padding and velcro system in more detail.
I like the open, airy design. But I'm still leery of that fishnet sleeve. It just seems like it would have to creep down the thigh and bunch up around the knee. They should definitely sell the girl's version with a garter belt

I just got both the '07 LZ arms and legs and they feel great; at least around the house. Will be testing them at N* this weekend. Regarding the leg, there's a velcro strap on both the top and bottom which you can tighten pretty tight (the straps on the shin area have less tightenability). Will see though if this really holds. Concerning the arm, the velcro straps don't really tighten so make sure to get just the right size. I have fairly thin arms (I'm 5'10") and the L is a bit loose.

The straps on the LZ Elbows use the slider bars to increase the tension. They ship set in the loosest position, so start sliding them in the other direction, and it will start tightening up for you. On top of the sleeve, there's a Velcro tab: just fold the material over until the gripper elastic engages your bicep, then set the Velcro strap in place.
The upper calf strap on the LZMX also uses a slider bar: the Velcro part acts only as buckle, and isn't designed to tension the strap.
