I would love to pick up a 2011/2012 888 RC3 Ti, but since the money isn't really there right now I need to find something used that will be my "best bang for the buck." Right now these are the options that I am looking at and the associated costs. It will be going on a used 2010 Canfield Jedi that I just picked up.

    - Buy used 2010 Boxxer Race and a new Avalanche cartridge.....$750
    - Used 2010 Boxxer Team.....$450-$600
    - Used 2011 Boxxer R2C2...$600-$750
    - Used 2010/2011 Marzocchi 888 RC3 Evo....$700-$850
    - Other ideas welcome

I would rather not spend more than $700, but if the 888 RC3 or the Boxxer with the Avy cartridge are worth it, I will definitely consider it. Comments, suggestions, etc?

Used 888 rc3 evo or an avy boxxer whatever ends out cheaper.

That 2011 Marz 888 RC3 Ti for $999 shipped is an awesome deal. Still not sure I can really afford it this month though.

That is an amazing idea. Unless your local tracks are wrist braking rough 180mm of avy goodness is more than enough and at that price I'd hit it.

I'm more interested in the Boxxer Team that you are selling. I can't use the Totem because my frame has a 1-1/8" steering tube.

I also have the chance to potentially pick up a 2010 888 RC3 for under $700. Bit heavier than I want, but more in my price range.

Alright, last question. Now that I am contemplating spending $999 on a new 2011 Marzocchi 888 RC3 Ti...any opinions on that vs. a used 2011 Manitou Dorado for the same price?

The warranty comment is the only thinking keeping me on edge. I have been a Marzocchi fan since buying my Z1 in 2000 and haven't owned another brand since, but the Dorado is really making me question that...warranty or not.

I have a brand new 2012 still in box 888 EVO RC3 Ti if you want a VERY good deal on a MZ. Honestly the Dorado rules best DH fork I have ridden.

PM ME ON PRICE IT'S CHEAP!

if i were buying a new marz right now, i'd go for the cr. it has a spring loaded ifp damper that's also inverted, the only problem is that it's a bit heavier. if the rc3 had shimmed rebound it would be worth it but since it doesn't, all the more expensive 888's are simply lighter and nothing more (they do have an external volume adjuster though).

Thanks for all the input and advice, but I am going with the Dorado this time (so much for not breaking the bank). I have been a Marzocchi-only owner for too long and think I need to at least give something else a try. Everyone raves about the Dorado, so even if I don't like it, I'm sure I could sell it for what I bought it for.

    888 CR or a used RC3 Evo from 2011+

The CR comes in around 850 new and the RC3 at ~650 used.

I would stay a million miles from any 2010 Boxxer, and not touch a 2011 unless I could ride it a few times first. I've had bad experiences with the former, and questionable ones with the latter.

LOL I totally just shipped a 2010 team out to NJ, its gonna be waayyyyy within your million miles! you're totally boned!

But in all seriousness, its functioning perfectly and has been since day one, so don't worry, it probably wont hurt you to be within a million miles.

Is that so? I thought bad bushings could be found from 07-10. Thanks for the update....I smell an EVO in my future.

I know, every time I ride I see them, and sometimes I even ride the same trails as them! How I'm not dead by other people's parts is beyond me!

nobutseriously, I had a lot of problems with my EARLY 2010 Boxxer, and even my brandy new 2011 boxxer wheezed uncontrollably...but I sold it with the bike before I diagnosed it. Plenty of people have no problems with their RS products, I'm just cursed.

I hear you, I'm just teasing you man, having bounced on and played with the latest marzo, I'm pretty sure it feels amazing, but after my experience with my 08 66 (and literally every other person I knew who got marzo products in that era) I was still totally unwilling to plop down money for one when I ended up buying my team. A sh1tty experience with a terrible fork goes a long way in making sure you never want to ride that brand again, especially when you feel like you got shafted by the service.

I'm pretty stoked on my boxxer WC, and I was pretty amped on the boxxer team before it. It feels really good and I don't have to service it frequently. The new 888's feel good, and I only hear good things from owners, and the new 40 is ridiculously sweet. We live in a pretty damn good era for buying forks right now. Hell even the low end from most companies is getting pretty solid. I think the domain DC feels pretty damn smooth, and while it doesn't have the sophistication and controls my WC does, it aint shabby. My buddy just got a 888cr and has nothing but good things to say about it.

If I can recall, troubles in quality came into play 2009, maybe even 2008? My 07 is still pretty frickin' sweet.

The problem years were 2008 and 2009. Then the Evo thing started with new bushings etc. Still on my '10 EVO (Yes I was a guinea pig). Love that fork. Did an oil change last off season and a full service this season. My buddys still can't believe how smooth this fork is.

I've got an Avy carted 888 for sale - '08 stanchions, but 2010 lowers, bushings, seals and spring, all of which have maybe a dozen rides on them. Asking $600 obo.
Kinda depressing to think that I put more than that into the fork just in upgrades...

MP, I was gonna suggest you call Suspension Experts in Asheville b/c Kevin seemed to mention a barely used DH fork or two at his shop. Nothing beats getting a used DH fork that has been serviced by a warranty center and dialed to your weight and riding style.

Thanks for the info Butch, I'll keep them in mind for the future. Hopefully I don't regret spending the extra money putting the fork I've always wanted on the frame I have always wanted.
