This track is mint. Absolutely mint. I havn't had so much fun on a race track for a while.

Basically it is wide open, off-camber, super dry, blown-out corners and drift after drift on the way down. One of the loosest tracks. Full of natural jumps, drops as well as a decent gap jump to the finish line.

There are a few big names here, Lars Tribus & Shaums March from the states, Nige Page is here from the uk with about 90 other poms. Two of us kiwis wearing the black.

Loads of peakless,XC-gear-wearing,body-armour-with-no-tops-on euros.

Didn't bring a camera with me on this one, so no photos I'm afraid, I am sure there will be some posted somewhere on the 'net. I will however try to make a wee vid to post up here.

Having a break now while I wait for my qualification run in 3 more hours. Downhilling is so stop-start. Loads of breaks.

Wicked, I'll try to update when I can.

descent world have a report formthe first practise day.

My money is on Glynn O'Brien of Rampage fame. Hes been pinning it all season and really schooling all the young elites all season at our NPS races. I don't think I've ever seen him ride aswell

Is that you Gary? You should be here... Awesome photo potentials going...

I had a **** qual run, forks bouncing me all over the place and blowing out the corners. Hopefully sorted it out now for race run today.

Shaums qualified 3rd in the 30-34 age group.

Nigel smokes the 35 - 39 class by over 5 seconds!

And Shaums comes through with the fastest time of the day to defend his rainbow stripes.

I have to admit... the Euros really know how to put on an event! Amazing crowds, pretty decent organization (except lift lines)... etc... fireworks.. mc's... euro freestyle moto exhibition.

The track was decent... not technical, but hard to go fast. Not your typical Euro track -- dry and dusty... but fun.

Oh ya -- my one complaint --- the Euro SRAM guys were complete d!@ks. They refused to help out two American riders --- one DH guy just wanted a squirt of chain lube which was sitting right there. The SRAM guys reply in French that it will be 110 euros. He asks again -- for chain lube? Oui -- 110 euros.
And an XC racer wanted to buy a disc brake mount, cuz he stripped his, and they flat out refused, even though they had a dozen of them sitting there. They were just a$$holes about both situations.

ok... done with my rant

Also a savage result from Glynn O'Brien taking 2nd place only a fraction of a second off Shaums.

Have to agree about the euro sram guys being idiots. Was at the mega and they where there with there van but wouldn't set up or help anyone out

Towing the party line.
SRAM europe has a limited capability compared to SRAM here in North America. Small truck, limited parts, limited techs etc. They are there to support their factory athletes, not every single rider there who happens to have bought a sram part.

Not allowing someone to use chainlue is a bit much, but the techs are probably under strict orders not to help anyone besides their guys. Help one rider and you have to help everyone.

the place was amazing. Snowmass type loose dusty course that got pretty beat up by the end of the weekend. The drive from Nice to Pra Loup was the scariest thing all weekend. You could see the bottom third of the course sitting at the outdoor bar - very cool. I will have pictures when I get back.

Uh-huh, compared to the mega-corporations that are SRAM and Shimano Australia. The tech guys are there giving away free service from dawn till dusk (even with a full roster of WC athletes) and really putting back into the sport. Case in point, junior ripper turns up at the SRAM tent, with blown Boxxer WC cartridge. 2 minutes later new cartridge installed, no cost.

Cheers,
Doug.

This is because Rob Eva is one of the nicest guys in the bike industry (running SRAM Aus. tech program).

The SRAM guy at the race was pretty cool. We were parked up next to him. He replaced a broken X.9 der with a carbon X.0 and sorted out two pairs of blown WC Boxxers. Both free and both straight away. Nice guy.

You must have approached him wrong.

I'm gutted Laurent from Fox Shox wasn't there to sort out my two blown Fox 40s.

Here are a few pictures I took:

Lars' Race Run. Yu can see his time on the red display on the shack and the finish line.

Shaum's winning run.

Huge crowd.

Big finish line hip.

All of my course pics are still in France. I will have them shortly. There had to have been almost a hundred photographers there. I wonder how to find those.
