After seeing how much fun the MonkeyFest out east looked we definitely need to plan one for the Midwest monkies that cant quite make it out to new england.

-Possibly in Denver considering that it is a major city and all that and is close to resorts and some good riding.
-Maybe sometime in September or October? Maybe even November or December or something.
-Have it on a weekend, ease up lodging and maybe just have people stay at other monkies houses...

Just kinda brainstorming at the moment. I'd really like to get this planned and would help out as much as I can if we do.

You see, you're already doing it wrong. :D You'll never get a large group to agree on anything, so two or three of you need to plan this thing on your own, then announce where and when it is. If people can't make it, that sucks for them. :monkey:

Moab sucks. Really, it does. There's Sovereign Singletrack and Slickrock, everything else has been raped by the Jeep-crowd (No offense.)

Maybe we could do Fruita? I've never ridden there...If we did it farther south we could pull it off in November even. Moab fat tire fest is last weekend in October, if we did it then in Fruita, it would be DESERTED.

Don't try Denver in Nov/Dec. You're courting disaster that late in the form of gnarly weather (not to mention the locals will be skiing) ;) Late September/early October would be somewheat "safe-ish"......... hopefully I'll be able to make it, since it'll be local for me. :)

You're courting disaster even in October (At least you are here). How far away is stuff in Denver? (IE, drivetime)

Yea I just realized weather would be unpredictable in Denver that time of year. Hm.... Let's see.. My school district is having a Fall Break from the 11th thru the 15th of October, so I'll be off that whole time. First week of November is another possibility, or even September would be good.

If we do it Fruita would be cool. If its in September some of the resorts should still be open on weekends so maybe we could have some camping at Keystone or Vail if its in September.

See I'm thinking that if we did it in Salt Lake we might be able to draw in some of the West Coast monkeys. There's tons of riding around here, I know where all the FR stuff is (In addition to the many miles of xc singletrack), and it's all within 45 minutes away, including Park City/Deer Valley.

One drawback might be our incredibly weak beer...For those malted fans, we would have to smuggle in anything decent :evil:

Thats a good idea, I think it would attract lots of people from the west coast too. If we do it there we'll have to get some carpools going for the Colorado monkies cuz I think its a pretty far drive from here...

Salt Lake is a solid 8 hours from Denver. 9-9 1/2 from the Springs. If it's in Salt Lake I'm already out........... ;)

How would October 10th thru 16th be if we had it for a week?

First week of November could work also, but I probably would only be able to go for a weekend depending on where it is cuz of school and all that.

Still waiting on suggestions for dates in September if we want it then.

Depends on the route...If you take I-80 up through Wyoming it might be faster than I-70 through Grand Junction. I'll mapquest it...

Damned Western states being so big...

Yeah. I've got school, so I'd have to work around it. Maybe just a weekend would be good? Let me check the calendar...I'm saying we go late October-November if we could do Fruita.

If it's within a couple hours of Denver, I'll join the fun. I'll even annoy y'all by hosting a road ride :evil:

Either way - 8 hrs or so. I've done both. The north route can be faster if the mt weather is $hit. Of course, it can be slower if WY is nothing but black ice and ground blizzards. ;)

Last weekend in October would be sweet. I've got the 28th and 29th off from school, fat tire fest going on in Moab, Fruita would be empty.

5 hour drive for me to Fruita, according to mapquest:

Total Est. Time: 4 hours, 57 minutes

I'm good with that. Now we just need a date and where we're gonna stay.

Not necessarily, Fruita is only an hour or so from Moab and a popular stop on the way to Moab. (I've done that every time on the way too or from Moab) But, it still won't be that busy. :cool:

What is there by way of campgrounds that we could hijack for the party and such? Anything private that anyone knows of? They seem to be more..hmm..."accomadating" than the Forest Service...

I have the last 4 weekends of Oct free so far. Camp up on Road 18? Although, it might be difficult to get enough campsites right together since they are free & first come, first serve. Is there camping out at Rabbit Valley??

According to the Fruita website:

Highline State Park
1800 11.8 Road, Loma, CO
(970)858-7208
(800) 678-2267
Colorado State Reservation System 27 Grassy Campsites for Tents and RVs

* Water Skiing
* Fishing
* Boating
* Group Facility Picnic Area up to 150
* Excellent Wild-life Viewing

We could just get the whole campground, it doesn't sound very big.

Well, it won't be *empty* since alot of Colorado residents look forward to the Moab fest as the prime time to hit Moab, but it definitely would be less then a "normal" fall weekend.........

IIRC you can pretty much throw down ANYWHERE in Rabbit Valley. Water might be an issue, though...........

So any word on final dates yet? Also xbluethunderx could you find out how much that campground would cost to make reservations for? Seems like Halloween weekend is going to work out pretty good, maybe Cooter and ttgf could make it out there as well. I just ok'd the idea with my mom and she said as long as I give her the dates soon that I'll be able to go.

Has anyone actually been out there? I'm wondering what this Rabbit Valley place is. I dunno if it would work if we couldn't get water there however. I'll call on the campground.

So, last weekend of October?

Wait, just talked to my mom, she'll be in California that weekend. Im sure I can probably get a ride up with some locals here, or drive if they let me. Any other weekends that would work just as good? This one will most likely still work but it'd be a lot easier if it were a different weekend. (sorry, just found out about this)

That weekend would probably be best for me cause I have Thursday and Friday off. The weekend before wouldn't work, I'll be racing in 24 Hours of Moab. Hmmm...

Also, anyone know how good the rentals are at Over the Edge in Fruita? I think I might want to play on one of their Blurs down there...
