Well, yeah. Because...Dude - bust my chops and then suggest this ride?
*In no way would I recommend this ride unless I didn't like the person.

It's an awesome ride... for the right kind of person. I'm not sure I'm that person anymore. But maybe!Touché!
That reminds me... Miner's and Deep. Fuck. Need to get those knocked out before I get too old. It's an awesome ride... for the right kind of person. I'm not sure I'm that person anymore. But maybe!
Heck... I'm still scarred from Cataract... not ready to go back.
Those two back-to-back are a good weekend. Bonus points if you leave early on a Friday, get twisted at Elevation Brewing and knock out a Canyon Creek lap on the way. Don't ask me how I know. That reminds me... Miner's and Deep. Fuck. Need to get those knocked out before I get too old.
Figured I'd leave *really* early and knock out a Green's prior to CC.Those two back-to-back are a good weekend. Bonus points if you leave early on a Friday, get twisted at Elevation Brewing and knock out a Canyon Creek lap on the way. Don't ask me how I know.
We'd have to ride that as a loop, nobody to shuttle us.Oh, and I've been thinking... you know what else is basically "on the way" from Salida area to Buffalo Creek? Why... this ride right here is practically on the route!
Don't do it.We'd have to ride that as a loop, nobody to shuttle us.
You don't "need" a shuttle for this ride. We'd have to ride that as a loop, nobody to shuttle us.
Pfft. It's all totally rideable, bro. @Full Trucker and @Pesqueeb will back me up on this.Don't do it.
It's not a ride, it's hiking with your bike.
Dude... all kidding aside I might be with you on this one. I mean... I thought I pushed my bike a lot on that ride because I just didn't have "high country big ride legs and lungs" i.e. I was a fat and out of shape ex-DHer... but hearing you think it ain't worth it makes me think it ain't worth it. Some of the descents (Burning Bear, the no-trail-follow-the-cairn stuff) were good, but fire road / 4x4 trail bombing (Red Cone) isn't necessarily my jam.Hey I'll happily do dumb shit, I used to race 100 mile mtb races single speed. But I'm in zero hurry to go spend 8 hours pushing my bike for most of that 22 miles, we were just grateful we had a car parked at the bottom to collect the other vehicle back from the top.
This one? That's on the list... there's been at least one MTBR thread about that one over the years... it doesn't seem to get maintained very often so even years without historic avy activity, it sounds like there can be a lot of deadfall.I do keep eyeing the South Fork Trail loop though. But I bet it's buried in avalanche debris this year.
I'll bet that Lenawee goes. Now... does the extra secret sauce also go is the question...Was hoping to do Lenawee with a visitor in 3 weeks time, can't see that happening so I'm interested to hear how Copper Searle looks closer as an alternate.
Remember that one time we pedaled up from Keystone to A-Basin, and THEN pedaled up A-Basin, to get to Lenawee?Im in for Lenawee in 3 weeks time, I'f you don't mind!
You mean me? Need to sort out a rental right quick, I'll ping you this week to finalize. Was hoping to do Lenawee with a visitor in 3 weeks time, can't see that happening so I'm interested to hear how Copper Searle looks closer as an alternate.
I bonked just reading that.Remember that one time we pedaled up from Keystone to A-Basin, and THEN pedaled up A-Basin, to get to Lenawee?
Yeah... that was some epically Bad Judgement™ right there.

FT said it would be a good warm up.I bonked just reading that.
Having hiked up to about 10.5K in the general area recently, it's probably gonna be awhile... deadfall and avy debris aside. The wet ought to be EPIC regardless of when it gets attempted.<snip>

Gotta be gettin' close, no?I'll bet that Lenawee goes. Now... does the extra secret sauce also go is the question...

I'm sorry, sir... but you're too young to own that much shit.
^We're crossing streams. Yeah, the 3rd. I'll send you an electronic mail to finalize details. For Lenawee I'd only hit it with the bonus, otherwise Copper/Searle was the alternate I'd suggested for the visitor. I can't remember if it was Saturday 3rd or Sunday 4th he's ditching his family, hey @Fool you still planning on a CO ride?
are you towing your truck behind it on a flatbed?
Nope. My truck stays in CO while I move our stuff. I'll fly back to Denver to collect the wife, dogs, and camper so we can finish out the trip back to the east.are you towing your truck behind it on a flatbed?
In reality we dont. All of our stuff, with the exception of my toolbox, sofa, and couch fit into a 7.5 x 15' storage unit. But we sprung for the 26', cause I dont know how much more driveability we'd have with a 20' or 22'.I'm sorry, sir... but you're too young to own that much shit.
psh. years ago i drove a truck that size towing my tacoma on a flatbed trailer from LA to NJNope. My truck stays in CO while I move our stuff. I'll fly back to Denver to collect the wife, dogs, and camper so we can finish out the trip back to the east.
where you moving to?Nope. My truck stays in CO while I move our stuff. I'll fly back to Denver to collect the wife, dogs, and camper so we can finish out the trip back to the east.

Ouchie. I think, were I to do it again, I'd do it in reverse direction and descend West Fork Lost Trail. The section from Spring Creek -> Cataract Lake is quite scenic... but if you thought Trail 600 had a lot of hike-a-bike.Still on my to-do list.
Massachusetts. Not too far outside of Boston.where you moving to?
Wasn't that bad. Don't be bitch. You don't "need" a shuttle for this ride.
Pfft. It's all totally rideable, bro. @Full Trucker and @Pesqueeb will back me up on this.
Confirmed: Colorado Trail is in all the way to Georgia Pass and back via a friend on the Stravas who rode it yesterday. His report: "Two very small drifts. Takes a few seconds to go over up, sendable on Hayduke tires going down" He did not descend West Jefferson....CT from Kenosha Pass to Georgia Pass is riding as an out-and-back... also highly worthy of your time. Not sure how high up you can get right now...
Isn't that all in the Lost Creek Wilderness? Not sure where you're riding...Oh - and I forgot to add - it's totally worth doing an out-n-back from Long Gulch on the CT out to Lost Park campground. The gradual DH from the top of the saddle to the campground is just so much fun.
Parking here.
Oh - and if you climb the CT to Georgia Pass, can you head down West Jefferson trail and let me know how it is?
Miners Creek down near Creede? That reminds me... Miner's and Deep. Fuck. Need to get those knocked out before I get too old.
I don't mind HAB if it's worthwhile, but that South Park Burning Bear loop has nothing redeeming other than the ability to bitch about it years later.Ouchie. I think, were I to do it again, I'd do it in reverse direction and descend West Fork Lost Trail. The section from Spring Creek -> Cataract Lake is quite scenic... but if you thought Trail 600 had a lot of hike-a-bike.
He needs to go back and tell us how West Jefferson is running.Confirmed: Colorado Trail is in all the way to Georgia Pass and back via a friend on the Stravas who rode it yesterday. His report: "Two very small drifts. Takes a few seconds to go over up, sendable on Hayduke tires going down" He did not descend West Jefferson.
CC: @Heidi @6thElement
Yes. Best ridden combined with Snow Mesa, IMNSHO.Miners Creek down near Creede?
Also near Creede.Deep??
Hey man, just trying to make sure @Heidi has a good time while she's here... dang!take it to www.coloradorideconversations.com, a-holes!
Nope - the section from Long Gulch all the way down N Fork of Lost Creek to the campground skirts the Wilderness boundary. You're probably getting thrown because there is a short section (Black Canyon) between Long Gulch and Rock Creek that *does* go back into the LCW.Isn't that all in the Lost Creek Wilderness? Not sure where you're riding...
I dunno... similar to the Spring Creek -> Cataract ride... the views are nice. I, however, found the descents to be worth the effort (and complete lack of ANY people within an hour of Denver).I don't mind HAB if it's worthwhile, but that South Park Burning Bear loop has nothing redeeming other than the ability to bitch about it years later.
Last official CT report was that there was a shitload of snow above treeline before Searle (July 9th). Here's a picture from July 7th of the tundra between Searle and Kokomo:I also need to hijack wifey's bookface to read the Copper Searle reports.
edit: Also sounds like I need to go ride that Sheep Creek loop.
*here we see a monocle shed in its infancy state*
