so my insurance went up to $635/year with Allstate. That's a lot of fvcking money, especially since I'm commuting to work on my bicycle, riding my bicycle on weekends, and really not riding my motorcycle all that much these days.

Anyone have a company for cheap insurance?

What coverage do I really need? I'd rather not pay money for insurance to cover my bike if it gets totalled and wouldn't my health insurance cover me medically?

I might have to get rid of my bike, cuz I can't justify $600/yr.

I just got a quote from progressive that was way cheap $275/YEAR!!!
So I'll be going with them.
Cool, thanks!

$275 is a fair price.

Now I have to decide if I can even justify that. I really love my motorcycle, but I ride it like a dozen times a year now.

I have the same liability coverage as my car and I only pay $99/year with no collision?
My moto ins was cheaper when bundled with my car, but I moved that over to my wife's ins policy (USAA) and that really lowered my car ins cost, but they said they didn't cover moto, so I'll have to call them again to double check.

Depending on if you have a loan or not you may want to consider deleting collision/fire and theft for the winter months if you are not riding the bike. You can also drop your liability limits to the minimum while the bike is not being ridden ( I am assuming that living in Denver your not riding a few months out of the year). Ususally that can save you a few $$ for at least part of the year...

What time of year are you most likely going to ride it?

Can you insure it for the summer only?

I got basic coverage through Geico for $242 a year. That is for a liter sport bike, not super sport. I did take the rider safety course, but I'm not sure how big of a discount that gave me.

If you have great credit, you might get a better deal through Progressive.

Opie, i'm not sure if it works for moto's but i had what they considered " leisure vehicle" insurance. i think it was a used under 3000 miles a year. i had it on a street rod i had and it didnt cost me much at all. might be worth a shot

very interesting idea!

I'll have to ask about it.

Ironically, if they ask me to document it, well, my dashboard is dead :)

Yeah, took the safety course too. And my bmw is only 750, so...
My bike is a 'tweener. Some insurance companies consider it the same as the R1, some consider it more of a "Sport Touring" bike.

With a 750 BMW, I would think Geico would be wicked cheap. It took me like 10 minutes to get a quote and coverage on the site.

I pay 118 a month for full coverage on the escort the S10 and the motorcycle through statefarm. The SHadow itself is about 22 bucks a month, all with a Five hundred deductable. Other than that Progressive or Geicko. I just got a quote from Allstate myself not that long ago, while i was saving money on teh cars, the Motorcycle Ins was not able to actually be run through Allstate, but has to be third party written. I am currently sticking with what i have

I have my car and truck through USAA, but they don't do motorcycles directly. The third party price was a lot, so I passed. My wife works for American Family and it was the same deal, third party and classed as a super sport.

i can't believe you're paying that much with state farm- they are like one of the only insurers that DON'T have sport-bike rates. I pay 85$ a year for a philadelphia suburb- next cheapest was progressive at 360!!!

that's for a GSXR750 w/liability only. i don't even ride it anymore, but i keep it insured just in case and b/c it's so cheap.

I am very interested as to why state farm is charging that much- maybe they think it's a bmw car??

22 a month is cheap for a good company, 120 a Month is for All three vehicles to have Full coverage, Also i didnt want the lowest coverage either, 75k50k75k I have great coverage, and for what i chose to have, thats actually cheap. Allstate was going to put me at about 160 a month for less coverage. Also remember that i pay more on my truck to cover up to 25k worth of cargo, IE Downhill bikes. Another product of statefarm is they like to take better care of the longevity customer. I have had statefarm now for 13 years myself, before that my parents had them for another 8, and since i was originally on my parents policy, i get discounted as though i have been with them for a full 21 years. At this point they cant give me a discount for the safety coarse, because i already maxxed ouyt my discounts on the Bike coverage.

One more thing to remember, not all state farm reps will run the Motorcycle Ins through there office, some thirdparty it out. Also no mater who you go with, in California anyways, if its over 1k CC motor, expect to pay alot more, no matter what bike it is
