each time Ive visited california, I found the locals snobbish, disrepectful and downright unpleasant. I really do not like what Ive seen of it. Maybe Northern california would be a bit more mellow.

California sucks. Can't wait for the earthquake that breaks it off the continent and it slides into the ocean to sink into oblivion.

I most definitely NOT offer them refuge (or pancakes) in my undersea nirvana either. I will release the hammerhead sharks on them.

damn, all you fools are really harshin my buzz. :D

Personally I like cali alot better than texas or florida, although I have never lived in cali. We'll see how it goes once I live there. I'm stoked though, and its going to be a cool job.

Yes, we're a surly bunch...you'd fit right in! :D

actually...you are probably referring more to the 'transplants' of california as opposed to the 'locals'....and yes...nor cal is a bit more laid back...so cal has a lot of 'transplants' lookin to be movie stars...when they don't make it...they become mean waiters...some transplants are ok...but not all of em...

Brenth, you are stoked. Cali is a sweet climate and there are nice people here. I was riding in the Santa Monica Mountains yesterday, freakin awesome!

Make sure to make the drive up to Santa Barbara when you get settled, lots of tasty trails and eye candy too.

But you'll get a lot of attitude unless you have a native californian ID card:rolleyes: :D

Where did you hang out? Seriously, come hang out on the beaches(away from the crowds), toss a frisbee, kayak a bit, hit a Mexican place for a burrito the size of your head, then go for a ride on the trails with me....SoCal is a chill place, just gotta get away from the cities.....man I can't wait to be back home and chilling with my friends.

Brenth, Santa Monica is nice, plenty of urban and dirtjumping in that area(some of the best actually). If DH trails are more your thing, Whoops is probably the best(from what I hear, haven't ridden it yet). There are trails pretty much everywhere in the foothills. If you have a chance I highly suggest visiting Santa Barbara for the weekend, we have some of the best DH out there as well as some truly epic xc rides. If you are less "hardcore" there are some mellower rides with plenty of flair. Plus eating burritos and watching college girls on State Street never gets old :D

So close to going home......

I stayed with my great aunt a couple of weeks out there about 4 years ago. She lives near the beach, just south of san diego (south i think). Her neighborhood was nice and looked clean, but the people were just a-holes everywhere i went. I actually saw my first DH bike on that trip too at a bike shop near her house. I dont remember names of anything. It sucked though, beleive you, me.
I could care less if i ever go to cali again, except maybe to vist miss missy, but Id want to be riding and snowboarding instead of hanging around town. No interesting people at all. just ****s.

Math,

Maybe you already know this, but Im not so sure its easy to just move to the states like that. I have a girl "friend" who lives in Belarus who cant even seem to get over the pond for a visit these days. No way she'd be able to move.

Belarus is not in the EU, and there is a trend that women from Eastern European countries dont visit western countries for "Appropriate" reasons...

I dont mean to be disrespectfull to any Eastern Europeans by any chance... i just state what has happened to Europe in the last 15 yrs...

But true... a visiting visa is tough, a working visa for someone with a Phd may be a bit easier.

Well, i guess you may have it easy then. I didnt know anything about the EU thing, and yeah, the mailorder brides and stuff, I could see why that'd be an issue...

An unlce of mine is married to a Bulgarian woman for years...and you cannot imagine the sh1t he has to go through every time he returns to Greece from bulgaria because of his wife's origins...

I havent sorted anythign yet with visas... i just know that if you are a specialist and a firm or uni is interested to you...then the visa is a done deal.

Oh, Im sure of the troubles you'd have to go through. I met this girl as an exchange student in high school and havent seen her since, because of all these rules. Luckily, its easy for me to go the other way though, and Im meeting her in Warsaw later this year:)

You are by and large better off doing this.... my best friend has a serious relationship with a slovakian girl...he visits her...

why? its easier...and 90% cheaper... you cannot imagine the price differential between wester countries and ex-soviet countries....

I hear there is good riding in Pt. Mugu state park, Ive only been there to surf. The base has some of the best surfing on the west coast. Santa Monica has good access to lots of places in the coast ranges, so youll have lots of options once you get them figured out. I was more into surfing and skateboarding when I lived in so. Cal., so Im not much help.
