bad thing is...it is expensive and crowded...cuz of all the good things...

The weather is awesome...

TONS of mountains to ride...you can be in traffic and 15 minutes later in the mountains with some sick ridng and beautiful views...

Everchanging gorgeous coastline from top to bottom....

San Francisco...Santa Cruz...Napa...SLO...Santa Barbara

Lots of movie stars...swimmin pools...

All the Sunkist soda you can drink...

Oh and if you're so inclined, which I think you, Westy, are...KGB...

Just a short jaunt to Hawaii...

about 15 snowboard resorts to choose from...coupla pretty sick places that after traveling to Whistler to board...I found you don't need to leave Cali to board...(cept for maybe some montana, wyoming, utah, colorado trips to check those out) not saying tahoe is better than whistler...just sayin no need to go to Whistler when you've got tahoe...unless you just wanna go to whistler of course...

it's a nice place to live...

Hey Westy, if you are serious, that's my hood (sort of) so send me a PM, or I'll give you the details in Dalton.

Bottom line is, if you are thinking about coming out here and buying a house (or condo, or mobile home) forget it.

BUT, what you get is arguably the best climate in the country, along with mountains and the ocean. Everything else is pretty much the same or worse than anywhere else. Also, depending on where in Simi Valley, I would look at living on the coast.

Simi Valley is very hot, dry, and windy, they get the Santa Ana winds worse than anywhere in so. Cal. The closer to the coast the better. If youre used to living in the desert, inland wont be bad tho.

I've never been but had a good friend who was the drummer of a cruise ship band that regularly docked in Jamiaca. He used to bring back a little of the lamb's bread for personal use and I sampled it on several occasions. A little too much sugary sativa for my personal taste, but it had a very nice sparkling high that wouldn't put you to sleep. I prefer a sativa:afghanica ratio of between 25/75 and 50/50 depending upon the particular strains and associated secondary growth characteristics.

Oh ?
Try over in the SFV, much hotter... How about San Berdino? Can you say hot and smoggy?
The wind cools it a bit in the summer, but there's a lot more area's that have much more wind that in Simi (upper Desert areas)... Simi's problem is suburban expansion, very little places to find rent, no nightlife, the least expensive houses to buy is around $350 to 400K. But if you'd like a small town feel but with over 100K people, Simi's the place.

WRONG ... The Beach areas are the most croweded areas (on the weekends that is) and rent in the beach cities? You better have a high paying job.

I think I had something constructive to add to this thread but it's been so dilluted I am not sure I do anymore. I hope you like it out here. Apparently it's a different culture... I never noticed, I just thought everywhere else was wierd.

I didnt say Simi sux the big one, I just said its hot dry and windy. Alot of ppl dont realize that so. Cal is a big desert, I was trying to give him a heads up. And maybe Simi isnt hit the worst by the Santa Anas, but you guys get them good.

Its hotter here in Chico, and its humid heat. Id kill for dry heat in the middle of summer. Sorry if it sounded like I was bagging on Simi, I wasnt trying to. You could call all of inland so. Cal hot dry and windy.

Not if you know the right places to go. The main drag beaches are boring, drive along the coast for a bit and find a strip of sand with decent surf, some sun, and have fun with some friends. Hanging out on the huge beaches of San Diego and LA is just not any fun...though Santa Monica is really nice. Finding a local hidden treasure is the best and there are a lot of then. Yes rent in a beach city is expensive, but so is most rent in SoCal....if you want low rent go to Montana(not that there is anything wrong with there, but it doesn't have anywhere near the crowds or rent prices of CA....not nearly as nice beaches either).

Personally there aren't a lot of places I'd rather live than Santa Barbara, unfortunately I question if I will ever earn enough to live there year round.

Anyhow, California is chill, that's about all I have to say.

Yea keep away from this baron von wastelanden, whatever that is, but Cali is a barren wasteland with nothing to offer a cultured individual such as yourself.

but seriously, i saw a Nevada licenceplate holder the other day that said "Nevada - not a wasteland" I couldnt help but think, "where the hell did that ad campaign come from?"

California is just Nevada with an ocean and a bunch more people. At least so. cal. is anyway. I dont wanna bash on your home man, but it just never appealed to me. Hawaii is alot nicer if youre into the pacific thing IMO. But anyway, I like the southeast/midatlantic. Im a deciduous kind of guy. Smog, and drivebyes arent for me.

If you want to assume that CA is one big LA go right ahead. Thats probably what keeps alot of redneck types out of Cali, so its something I should be thankful for. In reality, Cali has alot of variety, maybe more than any other state. We got 10 person BFE towns and 5 million person metropolis' and everything in between. We even have deciduous forests . We also have evergreen forests if you ever become a coniferous kind of guy.

We have all that minus the southern hospitality. Unless southern hospitality is the "GIT OFF MY LAND!!" kinda thing, then we got plenty of that.

So Cal has lots of stuff to do, pretty much everything is a 2hr drive and you are in a 100% different place. Living in Santa Barbara it's like being spoiled with great trails. There's easy stuff to stuff that'll make you wonder how they get down (but it's fun!). Over all good city for biking in.

I've grown up in Santa Barbara. There's a stereotype of people that drive BMW's and Mercades and it's mostly true. They don't pay attention, are rich snobs, and don't give a crap about much but themselfs. You can tell just by the way people drive how their attitude is. Granted So Cal is home to more music/movie/TV stars then any other concentration in the USA. People think their doo doo doesn't stink.

Cost of living you'll get use to fast. It is friggen expensive to do anything here. Insurance, rent, gas, anything, it's all more than any other place. Small price to pay for a place that if you are lucky rains 2 weeks a year, and the rest is damm near perfect all year around. The over-priced rent is worth it at that point.

Unless you are like me and your girlfriends parents own property in town and give her the hook up for rent, then you're ok :)

Is this another one of those odd California-phenomenons? It seems that everyone living in the West outside of California tries to talk people OUT of moving to their state. However, Californians seem to want to *invite* more people............

Weird.

I dunno, the only common phenomenon I see regularly is most people that trash-talk CA are those that have never lived here, and many have never even been here. Or those that went to one corner of one of the largest states in the nation, and think they know what it's all about. All I gots to say in defense is, the real estate market isn't through the roof here because everybody is stupid, that's for damn sure.

I've never lived there. But I've been to San Diego twice, LA 4 times I think, San Fran once. and Hunington beach/Long Beach twice. I've driven down and through Carmel and Napa Valley down to SD. I'm not a fan.
