Freezin my arse off!
..and hate 1 minute run intervals...I swear the seeding runs took 3.5 hours if not 4. Holy smokes I'm cooked.
Here are a few pics before I pass out. The rest will be up on my site with a special "Mt Snow tried to kill me" page.

Holy s**t man, best batch of race shots I've seen since Spomer gave up being a full time bike Paparazzo...that first shot has been framed, lit and exposed so perfectly it almost looks fake.

Very nice pictures.

Question, do you get the rider's permission before snapping with a flash?

I've just got the rider's thoughts playing in my head... "Rock. Rock. Left. Brake. Tree. Roc-- s**t, what the f**k was AHHHHH"

The course was super high speed. Over half of it was wicked fast fire-roads, and when you did get into the woods, the rock gardens were pretty tech. They were just big rocks that had few lines through them (cleanly...)

No...IMO, it's the nature of the game...as a DHer in the woods during a race you're focused on your line...if your eyes are wondering around you're going to crash if there's a flash or not. You could always post a sign..photo ahead..but that would make you loose concentration of the task at hand cause you'll be anticipating the photog ahead instead of the course/obstacle.

Great Pictures! Strange how a lot of guys don't wear any armor these days. The look is great but it sure would suck to wreck without any armor on.

I ride with nothing but legs because of the sheer comfort factor. Pads get all over, their hot and damn right annoying sometimes. Granted they can help you from getting scraped up and what not but if your going down hard and breaking something ur gunna break it with or without pads. Plus most guys at that level really dont go down hard when they go down. Its rare to see a pro lose it in an open section.

it was forcasted to be close to 100 degrees that day, and the course was pretty easy (but scary fast). Armour wouldnt have helped much if you crashed because if you were going down at those speeds it wasnt going to be pretty no matter what.

Massive props to Brian for perching himself on one of the most sun exposed parts of the course for 75% of the day and clicking off pics, with no umbrella, no shade and no sunblock. Beautiful work with the pics, thanks for the awesome pic B!

Gotta call hog**** on that one.
Pros crash harder than anyone.
And with the speed they are normally carrying, the consequences are greater as well. Just watch the footage from last year's Mt. Snow race or the 1000 other examples. At the US OPEN, Riffle had the worst crash out of the whole weekend.
Didn't Sam Hill miss the World Cup this weekend, because of an elbow injury.
Man, some company should like make an elbow pad or something. :blah:
I am guilty of it as well, and I actually really prefer to not ride with armor, but my pads keep saving my arse time and again, and once you have really used your spine protecter, you are appreciative that it was there.

I know pros crash really hard but it isnt going to be as often as Joe Blow. And the more you ride the more you know how to fall. As in not bracing yourself with your arms and such? I didnt mean pros dont fall I just meant their experience in crashing and pro level riding gives them a little more preperation then the average racer.

bro, have you EVER been to a NORBA National or a World Cup??? When pro's eat it, it's sickening! It's like takinga slingshot and tossing a human body at a tree. It don't matter if you're Evil Kneivel or Luke Skywalker...it's gonna hurt.

Don't wear your armor...I'll be happy to stand on the podium while you wear a sling. :thumb:

Well, hopefully you'll be lucky and you'll never get carted off the hill in a helicopter or a back brace where that spine protector could have saved you from being paralyzed. Good luck, but you're an idiot if you honestly believe that there is any kind of legitimate reason for not wearing armor.

I've done it along with everyone else, but wearing armor is the smart thing to do, and nothing you say will make it otherwise.

utill the thermometer starts reading above 95deg and youd prefer to not feel like your going to pass out and get all dizzy when your pinning it down a hill
whatever, i hate to be a hijacker. the real issue here is the face that PJ has nasty pics and deserves the cred - i think we should just dub him 'minispomer'

Whatever dude, keep dreaming practice boy.

When they go down, they go down 10x harder then you, butch, myself or anyone else. Quality, not quantity.

I know perfectly well the benefits of armour. But do to heat, and comfort I choose not to wear it unless its somewhere where it is almost mandatory say snowmass or Durango. No need for anyone to take offense it's just the way I feel. And from what I've seen of pro crashes compared to amatuer I still don't think pros god down as hard as ams. At local races alone Ive seen 2 guys carried off in stretchers and/or an ambulance. I dono when the last time I saw that during a pro race but I havent been around much either. Flame on.

Mount snow, last year. First pitch outta the start gate, 45 min course hold - 4x4 stretcher and eventually, helicopter.

I've been trying to talk him (biker3) into wearing armor for awhile. He just doesn't like to, and i respect that. He knows his limits more than anyone else, but there are those times that noone can help, and thats where armor really comes into play. I KNOW he'll be wearing armor at Snowmass and Snowshoe, because i'll be going with him, and i'll bitch slap his ass until he wears it. ;)

Me, i'll wear armor practicing for a race and racing and whenever i know i'll be anywhere near my limits. I know that if i didn't have my suit on yesterday; i'd have been walking down the mountain with a dislocated shoulder and be a lot soarer (word?) than i am today.

Johnny Waddell was stretchered out of MSA two years ago unconcious / in a coma. Graves blew up one kidney, then nearly did the same thing to his remaining kidney. At pro speeds you face the very real risk of catastrophic internal injury when you bail.

Great pics. Which section was that? It looks so much different looking up vs. down. Is that the super short woods section before the last woods section?
