Muddy, windy ride, less energy.

I went for a quick ride yesterday, about an hour and I was beat. It was muddy and very winding. I was riding back to my car on some open double track and the wind gusts almost blew me off the trail. Don't usually ride after it rains but I couldn't help it. I'm wondering if i got tired so quickly from the extra effort in the mud and riding against the wind. Anybody have any comments?

Wind saps me bad. I am a light weight guy and it seems to just throw me all around when the gusts are high.

Anything like sand or mud will make you use more energy. More effort to pedal in those conditions.

I agree with Squeak. The wind and mud are physically difficult to battle, but also mentally demoralizing at times.:(
