Cross-posted from mtbr's 29"er forum ( http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=237938 ).
I just got word from Diatech USA (Seattle) yesterday that the much anticipated Halo Freedom 29" rim has hit US shores.
I'm still awaiting delivery of my Niner RIP9 frame, and these rims were to be the last piece of the puzzle. Looks now as if the rims will before here before the R.I.P.9 frame arrives.
32H, eyeleted, black anodized, disc-specific and a deep-V cross section. 575g apiece and, yes, 28mm wide!!!. That's about as wide as the Salsa Delgado Disc, but burly and freeride-worthy. Weight's just right for a no-nonsense all-mountain ride.
From what I understand, 36H are being manufactured, expected in the UK mid-November, and maybe another month until they hit North American shores.
I've got my order in. I'm finally anxious to get my hands on my frame. I ordered two pairs of Freedoms. The second set will replace my stout Mavic A719 rims on my Buzz Bomb. Similarly weighted, neither of these rims are the lightest, but both are light enough considering their strength. Based on the excellent reviews the 26" version of the Freedom rims, I am expecting a lot.
