I decided to replace the 888 with an Avalanche DHF8-MT fork. The MT version of the DHF8 has larger 45mm uppers and an extra stiff lower crown. I liked the 888, but there is just something magic about how the Hood rides with an Avy front and rear. No more diving in the front when cornering hard like the 888 had a tendency to do. I did however gain a couple pounds over the 888 (8.5 lbs) now DHF8-MT (10.6 lbs), not to mention its a heavy bike to begin with (almost 50 lbs w/ new fork). I really only notice the weight when I have to pick it up to load or unload, when on the bike the Avy keeps the bike firmly planted to the trail.
Yes its heavy, but it rides sweet...

If bicycles were chairs, this would be a super comfortable, overstuffed sofa.

Cool ride. I've always liked the details on those. What's with the FTW sticker, I didn't think he had anything to do with those. Am I mistaken?

Frank and Jimmy built most of the Mussels together. The rear ends are actually interchangeable between the last Generation Project X's and the Mussel....

Gosh, I wish I had one of those....

Somebody likes burly parts here... I would not build it this way... but I have to agree it´s a very nice ride!

I love my Avy fork, it's on it's 4th season. I too went from a 888 which I hated. However the Avy & bike it's on should soon be retired within the next few weeks.

you should send it to me, so it won't get retired.
