So, Im thinking of picking up a 08 Trek Remedy as a daily pedaler. Last XC bike was a XL IH Mkiii. Plenty big, super short stem. My revolt is a Large with a ETT of (virtual) 24"

The Remedy I can get a deal on is a Medium. The Top Tube is 23.3" A tiny bit shorter than my revolt. On occasion standing up ill hit my knee pads on the shifter trigger.

I dont quite know what im asking here. Any experience riding a bike a bit shorter than normal. Im almost 6'2" btw

Oh and the deal im getting on the Remedy is 2K out the door brand new.

Buy a bike that fits. Pedaling that is going to suck at your height.

Agreed. I'm 5'10 and would size myself with a 23.3TT. The deal sounds great, and the ABP Trek's are (suprisingly) impressive so far IMO, but the bike straight up doesn't fit you.

Yeah, I bought a L mkiii about 4 months ago and felt odd on it. Mostly because I have been used to riding my Revolt as my only bike and it not being slack felt super weird and it felt kinda small up top. I also ran a 40mm tompson stem.

Im gonna go sit on it and see, if it immediately feels small or cramped I wont be buying it. Id also like to add that im in central Ohio and 95% of the places i'd ride are relatively flat or DH/freeride. If I was in Cali still there's no way i'd even think about it too much climbing around there.

No way is that medium Remedy going to work out. I'm 6'0" and have a large. I test rode a medium, and there is a huge jump in the sizing of these bikes between med and large. The med felt really small, and the large felt a little too big until I put a 60mm stem on it, then it was just right. Anyway, I prefer a longer tt and shorter stem then a tiny bike with a xc race bike stem on it.

My main concern is my upper frame. Im 6'2" but wear a 30/32 inseam jean. It's worth it for me to at least go sit on it. Im pretty sure there were 2 medium sizes for that year too. a 17.5 and 18.5. which of these it is I am unsure. At this point im considering it too small, but will go to the shop to take a look at it as well as some of the '09/10 Remedy's they have there.

Yeah, I'm about 6' and wear 32 inseam jeans, and I'd find the medium too small. You're going to feel really crampt on it.

Had an 08 Remedy and have a 2010 on the way. I am 5'11" and feel right at home on the Med 17.5". If your over 6'1" I would be running the Med 18.5" or large. Thinking you need the large. Here was my 08 one and I can say the 2010 I will have will top this one. The bike will handel anything you throw at it and still climbs like a 4.5" bike.

Good luck,

As far as sizing, there's Med (17.5), L (19.5) and XL. There is no 18.5, but the Large is labeled "Virtual 19.5" in large lettering, then "actual 18.5" under that in smaller lettering.

The XL looked pretty huge, I didn't even try it. If the OP has super long torso and arms an xl might be worth trying but I'd bet a L will do it at ~24.5"tt.

Cecil, I'd trade my '09 R9 for a '10 R9.9. The light weight and new shock are going to make that a seriously fun bike.

I've got the 08 remedy 9 med 18.5 I think. It is my cross country bike. 2k is a great deal. It is NOT a DH or FR bike. I feel it is a all day trail bike I wouldn't consider it a all mtn either. I like it but not in love with it.. I'm out of chicago we don't have mountains any way.

They didn't have the medium long in 08, that was a new size for 09 (though the Fuel EX always had that size).

I did say Almost..... But yeah your absolutly right, were I am a I would want to see the OP ride a large ad an XL, size accordingly from there, I stills tand there is no way the medium is going to work

So I went and pedaled it around. Not as small as I though. It felt pretty good actually. Not good enough to walk out with it but good enough to consider it. I measured myself up 6' 1.5", 28" Reach and 30.75 Inseam Bike has a 23.25" EFF. TT. the only difference between the two sizes 17.5 and 19.5 is a 2.4cm to tube. Which I could cheap with a different seatpost. I just measured my revolt and it has a under 23" ETT

They actually have some really good deals on the '09 EX 7/8 right now too and im kinda milling one of those over. I rode a 19.5" EX 8 and it felt gigantic, like strangely long. Which is funny because a I rode a XL mkiii for a few years.

I'd like to try a 18.5 Remedy just to see, but they dont have any. They do have a 18.5 '09 EX 7 and it seems like a decent build for the dollar. They want $1499 for it and 2K for the Remedy. I was kinda thinking maybe to the EX 7 and get a 140mm fork for it to slacken it out a bit.

I could honestly see myself riding the 17.5" Remedy here in Ohio without issue. Standing up pedaling my knees dont make contact with anything, with the pedals flat horizontally on a 650mm bar I can almost go full lock before touching my knee. I wouldnt touch the stem on the bike, maybe just widen the bars up a bit and go from a zero offset seatpost to the standard 20mm.

It seemed like it would be a fun bike to throw around at that size for sure though.

So I know everyone here thinks it would be to small but i rode it and 18.5 and 19.5 and it honestly felt the best to me. Seats only about .5" higher than stem and I get full extension and dont feel crowded in the cockpit at all. So I went ahead and pulled the trigger on it. Super snappy feeling in the whole parking lot test. I think im gonna have alot of fun flicking this thing around.
