OK monkeys. I now have hard data that proves e13 are too sticky to pedal anywhere but down.
I rode the same loop the last 3 days, weather conditions similar on all rides so wind was not a factor.
According to the Garmins:
Friday with e13s knobbies front & rear
Distance: 7.86 miles
Moving time: 1:04:24
Moving speed: 7.3 MPH
Top speed: 21.6 (had to pedal in and out of fast berm)
Average HR: 162
Today with Maxis knobby front and semi-slick rear
Distance 7.85 miles
Moving time: 0:57:33
Moving speed: 8.2 MPH
Top speed: 21.2 MPH (did not pedal any down hill sections)
Average HR: 158
Is rolling resistance your only issue with the E13? I have a couple of them hanging on the garage wall. Was going to put them on my smashy bike and move the lighter-weight tires to my hard tail. I don't know much about those E13 tires, though.
my e13 tire experience was they were awesome EXCEPT for they drag. For slow grinding climbs > rocky descents it wasn't an issue. For mileage or riding to/from trails, it was noticeable.
