Nervous like I have never been... really strange. I have done dozens of interviews at bigger agencies than this. I think maybe I feel like I really need to get this one, more than ever before.

Anyway, wish me luck.

As for the interview itself... It went alright. Mostly positive, I seem to be perfectly qualified for the position. I am 100% sure I can do everything they could possibly need.

She seemed to like my portfolio, which is quite versatile. She was really hard to read though... had one helluva poker face. The only time she perked up is when she would notice the really big name clients that I had worked for... any piece for Williams, Mazzio's, of ONG wold get her talking.

The only problem I had was that I struggled not to come off negatively about my current job when she asked about it. Also I had to tell her about my scheduling problem what with the $1000 pay cuts for being late and not having much time off etc, etc. She said she'd see what she could do and scribbled a bunch of notes on her pad. I did tell her that I would absolutely make any meeting she asked, I just felt she needed to know about the situation.

I came out of the interview not feeling 100% positive, but looking back on it I cant really remember any problems. I think my current work situation just has me a little depressed. Need to just try not to think about it cuz its out of my hands now.

I'm telling ya, just blurting out "I am very aware of brand awareness" would have nailed it.
I should have told her about my new design firm concept... F*** It & Associates.

"At F*** It & Associates we don't have positions, everyone is the president. We dont have dress codes either, wear your bathrobe. Need coffee? F*** it, Don't tell the intern, take a nap. Computer on the fritz? F*** it go home. Client mad about a deadline? F*** it, get drunk."

"If you hire me for you're department, I'll make it the F*** it & Associates concept my business model."

As long as you don't blurt out "synergistic alliance" you should be ok. Synergistic alliances are so 2006.
LOL! I dont go for that catch phrase crap. Its all Identity any way.

What was funny about this interview was the "key" questions. (1) the opening question "If you could name 2 of your positive atributes what would they be?" (I said Creativity, Efficiency)... (2) the closer "If you could give us one reason to hire you what would it be" (Because I'll come in here, work hard and do a great job). Those questions are so bogus... You either like my book or you don't, my experience and my personality either fit or they don't.

Should have said... (1) "I dont stink up the bathroom and have never left a floater" (2) "Because I know more abut running the department than the president does."

Yeah, but if you can't syergistically align your viral marketing campaigns with your strategic brand awareness initiatives, what good are you?

:twitch:
Bummer, all I can do is Create quality brand identities, market them with catchy campaigns that work together to target the correct people making them overly aware of the product on a frequent basis.

I guess I'm useless.

Sounds like you've already read one of my current favorite books:

Why Business People Speak Like Idiots: A Bullfighter's Guide
Never read it. But I know agency marketing speak is one of my least favorite things in the creative industry. Every year all these marketing big wigs go to the HOW conference and come back speaking the latest adver-babble which is usually regurgitated/rephrased crap from years past. Don't get me started LOL! This industry is so full of it (and many others I am sure).

BTW, not totally bagging on HOW. The profiles on some of the most successful work environment concepts are usually really cool, breakthrough stuff. So its not all bad.

2nd Interview scheduled next week. They went for the after work interview as I requested :)

This interview includes a proficiency test. Not that I have a problem with it, but I find it odd that they'd be giving proficiency tests at this high a level. I've tested entry level folks, but never someone with 10 years exp and a huge portfolio full of published work. Probably 2 more interviews after this. Then after the physical, a V02 Max, and G-force test I think they will be ready to hire me.

Rare, but I do know an old guy who designs logos with Quark Xpress. It the only software he wants to know. :disgust1:

Good luck!
Well that guy is in big trouble isn't he.
I know how to use everything so I'm not too worried, I just think its strange that they are going to test me. I am going to have to change the I.D. key commands to Quark mode though (assuming they ask me to use I.D.)

I still haven't made the switch from Xpress AND I prefer Freehand over Illustrator. I'm becoming a dinosaur.
