just out of curiosity... what speakers do you run? It's been a while since I really payed attention to HT gear, but I still enjoy it.
he's got klipsch fortes (not sure what he's got for the home theater).

here's my setup:

adcom 555 amp (200W)
adcom 555 preamp
NAD tuner (something real basic)
totally cheap pioneer tape deck
rotel turntable (fully manual)/sumiko blue point cartridge
a/d/s L880 speakers on stands
Denon 370 5 cd changer

home theater is a marantz SR7200 6.1 system w/ 7 speakers (the ceiling rear speakers are wired mono for now), w/ a panasonic DVD (can't recall the model).

damn, while watching action DVDs at yr place it must be confusing as to whether there's an earthquake happening.

my surround speakers are cambridge soundworks (3xMC300, 2xS200, and two ceiling mounts) , w/ a CSW 1000W sub.

haven't been able to crank a movie yet, because the kids are in bed by then.

Cool stuff guys. Like I said, it's been a while since I was really into this stuff. I've got 2 half systems (once our house is done, I'll complete them both).

I've currently got:
NAD receiver
Virtuel Acoustique V-404 mains
Virtuel Acoustique V-3 center
Energy Pro Series surrounds

Toshiba DVD player
Toshiba 34" 16:9 HD TV

Stuff not currently being used:
Energy Pro 1.5 sats
Energy Pro series center
Video projector (mind is blanking on the brand at the moment... been a long time since I've been able to use it :dead: )

If my house is ever done, I'll put all the energys together with an Denon or HK receiver for use in my family room with the Toshiba TV/DVD player. Then I'll buy some rears (probably PSBs) to go with the Virtuel Acoustiques and an NAD DVD player to go with my projector in the basement. Once the basement is done, I'll have a better feel for what I need in terms of subs... probably go with two smaller subs rather than one bigger one though... probably two 10s.

I can get the house shaking pretty well, especially with the size of the sub, it's 11" cube.

I'm running a RX-V2400 Yamaha receiver and it is schweeet! Got is coupled to a Yamaha DVD-C940 dvd changer which feeds the plasma through the component jacks. I have my HD DirecTV receiver connected to my plasma via a DVI cable and I wish like hell that my dvd player had a DVI or a HDMI cable output. The picture is so clear it is unbelievable!!!

I'm powering a Sun-of-Sub 10" for ground rumbling lows...

is having a nice home theater really preferable to, say, retiring a few months earlier? :D

I love my Yamaha. I need a new DVD player because like I said I bought it in 98 and it can't play some type of disc's. But the 2095 rocks. I love the look of no knobs. It has a volume and a switching knob for components but that's it. Then you touch the door and boom everything else. I bought an 18 just because it was an end of the year sale. It was $1000, on sale for $500. I couldn't pass. I've never really see what it can do, but I've dropped a few pictures off the walls with it. My HDTV doesn't have DVI. It was the last year before the swap. It does have net connect which is pretty cool. I picked the rear projection just because the pocket book didn't want to open wide enough. I've fixing to watch monday night football I'll snap a shot of it.

so this thread can finally come to a conclusion.

got these for an xmas present, and the weather was finally good enough to install them. got a spool of 12 or 14 g speaker wire, and i thought i was good to do. unfortunately, drilling a hole through the sill required a longer paddle bit than i had. got an extender from my father-in-law, and it was good to go. figured out where i wanted to hang the brackets, put 'em in, wired 'em up (didn't use the spades as i didn't have a crimping tool large enough...will do this later) and tested 'em.

:thumb:

nick cave was soon broadcasting over the neighborhood.

i haven't cleaned up the wire runs yet, and i need to put some sort of transformer in line, as the receiver isn't rated for running speakers sets A & B in tandem if they are both 8 ohm impendance. but for now i can run them separately.

now all i need to do is to get a mosquito killing contraption. it's the worst i've ever seen it.

some install details:

under the eaves:

side of the house:

left speaker:

right speaker:

as a sound man for over 30 years i will suggest you build enclosures that lock and have insolation. The Camb. will be just fine. Any unshielded speaker will go freat there....away from TV's where they can do damage. Use heavy guage cable and tin the leads to minimise on corrosion.

i missed that final post..anyhow you can run them together in mono at 4ohms and any amp will handle that and put out more watts to accomodate the lower impedance. The only drawback is you must listen to the inside drivers while the deck is playing.

what amp/tuner are u using?

I have Sonance for my backyard, they sound good, but a little pricy @ $550-$799.

I have Sonance speakers mounted from the ceiling on my back patio as well... they are a GREAT product for the money.

it's a Marantz 7200. it's driving 7 speakers inside the house, and now these two (it's also connected to my real (ie, non surround sound) stereo so i can get tunes all over the house and now outside, either via digital output from the cd player, or analog from the pre-amp, into the Tape input of the Marantz).

i'd rather not run them in mono if i don't have to. is there something i can put in-line to increase the resistance?

the enclosure is a decent idea. i didn't get the rest of your 1st post.

in it's current setting, the speaker is shielded by the eaves a fair bit. if i did mount it to the underside of the eaves, some directionality would be lost. i think the current configuration yields the best sound for where people will be sitting.

electronically shielded cabinets will not effect your TV where as unshielded like old JBL or cerwin vega will ruin any set in a few weeks if the set sits within 4' of a powerfull magnet. I use my old jbl's outside where they do no harm. They are not exterior speakers so they REQUIRE an outdoor cabinet. Outside speakers are usually rain proof and have outdoor jacks or just banana plugs.newer outdoor speakers have ceramic drivers and are light weight so they mount easy.

The white speakers are great and the brackets are fine. Mounting under the eaves is sweet and if you don't like critters tape a moth ball to the top.

Make sure to use sealant where the speaker wire goes indoors.

On your tuner:

you do not have an A/B switch so you can wire the speakers into the main outs left and right[front]. They must be in phase[hot to hot etc.] and your tuner can handle the lower impedence. In fact it can be driven down to 2 OHMS. That is 3 speakers/channel. It is rated for 25 watts/channel but that is peak...not continuous power like N.American ratings.
Your 25 watt/channel amp equals 125/channel in our rating.
This is actually a sweet sounding reciever.

there is a place here in the great white nord called.....Winipeg.[whiney pig]
home of Burton Cummings and of the mosquito. Being a sound mixer from Toronto we feared having to do Western tours because of the offending bug. There are clouds of the pesty pricks and you will be bitten if you venture outdoors. Obviously mixing live music means sitting at a console outdoors for looooooong periods of time and not being able to move around in the summer months of outdoor concerts...the ones we live for. So being made aware that dates were being booked outside in August gave me the willies and a rush to crappy tire to purchase deet was in order.

They now spray massive amounts of chem. outside and it is a political ****storm.
