Actually we do have a public registry. It's done by county and accessable via the web.

There is also a community notification page that lists any new additions to the list. The one thing in Oregon though is it only does public notification of sex offenders that qualify as "predatory" meaning they have exhibited tendencies that make them likely to reoffend. But all sex offenders are registered and on the official list.

there is a guy just down the street from me and i live across the street from an elementary school and also a very well kept walking/hiking park where my wife goes with our 11 month old.
