I did a pool last year (which I came in near the bottom) of the top 7 finishers in General Classification, as well as the Green (Points) and Polka-Dot (Mountains) jersey winner.

Feel free to post your predictions for an informal competition. I will have mine up by Friday.

KOM-Vinokourov (T-Mobile is going to try to send him up the road on the mountain stages to try put pressure on Discovery, he won't be competing for the GC because they are going to burn him up, but he might have a day like Virenque and get enough points to win it.)

This was last year's pool formula:

Scoring:

We are using the following UCI points scale:

1st – 500 points

2nd – 375

3rd – 300

4th – 275

5th – 250

6th – 225

7th – 200

Mountains – 70 points

Points – 70 points

Rules:

To correct for misplacings we adjust up or down by the number of placing times 15. For example, if you pick Tyler to come in 3rd and he gets 2nd you would receive 1 place x 15 points, so you would receive 315 points instead of 300. If one of your riders dose not finish in the top seven (7) then you are not deducted points. There is obviously only one place for the mountains and polka-dot points.

Tiebreak: If there is a tie in the total point tallies, we will add the GC finish of all nine (9) riders selected (i.e. if your 9 selections finish 1,2,5,7,100,110, 114, 118, and 120; then your final standings tally is 577) and whoever has the lowest tally wins. DNF's will be counted behind the last finisher in order, i.e. the first rider to quit is the last placed rider. If two or more people pick exactly the same nine (9) riders in the same order then the pot will be split among the winners.
The key with my formula is get as many riders as possible, no matter what their placing. Everyone picked the same 5 guys, like Mayo, Heras, and Tyler. The top 2 guys last year picked Basso in the top 7, who was a dark horse.

No betting, because I don't want to be responsible for calculating the pool. But everyone enjoyed it last year.

i'm with you Ullrich is going to push hard and probably get second again.
i also like you botero and mayo pics. If we could select top 20 it would be easier.
if all the #1's stay in this year it will be a very exciting race.
I’d also like to see Biloki back in the mix.
We also cant forget about Bettini. (but did i read somewhere he wasnt racing?)

I can't even pick the winner, let alone the top seven. It should be Lance and a various assortment of also-rans. I have this gut feeling that Lance's luck won't be as good this year despite seven being a lucky number. Whether it be a mechanical or the infamous stage one pile-up, I just think he's going to have some major adversity to overcome. A couple/few other teams are adopting the Postal/Discovery team strategy as well.

I sense chaos.

Hell, I'll wing it...

When you try to pick the TdF winners, you start to realize how difficult it is to compete in the Tour. Last year everyone picked Lance, Ullrich, Heras, Mayo, and Tyler in the top 5; only Lance and Jan finished the race.

I still haven't figured out my 7 yet either.

I dunno, I'm not up on who is in what shape this year so I cant really make an educated guess on the bottom 3, the top 4 I like though, and I could see it happening in that order.

Awesome to see Zabriske tear it up. For such an explosive rider he sure is soft-spoken during interviews. I'm still tripping that Lance actually passed Ullrich in such a short TT. Major psychologial blow for Ullrich (and a large percentage of the contenders) and an huge psychological boost for Lance and his teammates. Still a long way to go before Paris, so nothing's in the bag as of yet.

Sure looks pretty ominous for anybody in the peleton without the number "1" on their jersey.
