I must say that those trails are fucking awesome! A lot of it was leaf blown and in great condition. Platty's not for beginners, but such a blast and a challenge compared to other DH areas I've been to. If you can ride half the shit Platty has, than Whistler and a lot of other parks will be VERY doable.
The steepness of platty is what I miss at all the other mountians....bummed I didn't make it this year but hopefully it will be open like this next year..
the weather was absolutely mint saturday. cant say the same about saturday night into sunday morning though. i dont think ive experienced wind that bad there before. we pussed out sunday with the rain too
the leaf peepers were terrible on the lift too. tons of people kicked the stop bar at the bottom like they had no idea it was there and they stopped or slowed down the lift for every single sky rider.

I haven't been on the triple side in probably a decade. I'm very leary about going over there since a buddy and I got lost off the backside somehow. We followed that ski trail to those little shacks and took a groomer path that hadn't been maintained. We ended up in an area that had been timbered recently. We ended up going down cause we weren't hauling our 55lb bikes back up. We eventually came to an intersection with about 8 different ways to go. We made a u-turn to our right and started heading in this direction. Worried, cause we've been lost for about an hour and it was 4pm. we saw bike tire tracks in the mud. I yelled out "Panaracer, Fire XC Pros!". I figured we're either heading back or further out, but it seemed like the right direction. We came out on the triple side about 1/2 way down on what's trail "2" on that map. It was 5 and we just packed our shit and left.
Since that day, I've never attempted to go over to the triple side. As soon as I see that little valve house with the graffiti on it, I turn right.
did that. ended up past somebody's house below the entrance to the hill. Had to push the bikes back up from the first intersection before the hill. Now I know to turn right. It's not well marked, that's for damn sure.
One of the fun parts for platty for me was not knowing where you were half the time, see a trail head down it. If it's good and you're lucky you'll find it again.
In the distant past I've definitely got separated from my group and taken some steep fall line stuff where if I'd have crashed they'd have needed the circling vultures to find me.
Trail maps and markings were always an amusing notion when riding there.

This is one of the things that makes Platty what it is, to me at least!
Go back to the early 2000's- When you got off the double and did a u-turn to the right and took the second left, there used to be a wooden bridge built of limbs and dimensional lumber. You could go on it or under it. Saplings were the runners and 2x's were the tread. They were gapped about 8-10" apart! You'd FEEL the thud, thud, thud... of the wheels in those gaps! There was a 1' step down and then a hairpin left turn. There was a 1' drop onto the ramp that was maybe 16" wide and narrowed down to the 2 branches nailed together (about 4" wide).
I think it took me 3 years to find that again. I doubt it's still there.
no. but there's a ton of old stuff on that mountain that time and lack of maintenance has rendered unrideable. I always joke that platty has more forgotten trails than most other mountains have open.
worth noting for anyone going or considering going. straight from the ESC guys:
The bike park is not open, and their insurance has not been activated for biking yet. The ESC is renting the mountain and our insurance only covers racers. The only trails cleared and safe are the race trails that we cleared ourselves. Only the race trails are open. All other trails are officially closed, sorry.
