My 2010 Rockshox Domain 318 has a ported rebound damper. Lackluster performance - Anything that can be done to make them work better ? Don't understand why they still employ archaic dampers in modern forks

a) Because they're Rockshox and gimmicks seem to take precedence over decent dampers
b) Because the Domain is their entry-level long-travel fork. If you wanted a better damper you could have paid more for a better fork. Sorta like saying "Don't understand why they're still using steel stanchions on modern forks" - it's to keep the cost down. If you'd bought a Totem even 3 years ago you would have gotten a shimmed rebound damper.
