YUP...tons of snow...it had snowed the week before the race, sometime in mid-May. That was back in the day when XTR V brakes were the shhhit and only the top pros rode disc. So in two practice runs, with all the mud, my brake pads got ground down to nuthin...there wasn't an xtr brake pad to be found in allllll of big burrrrr...fortunately, I had a connection at Shimano who hooked me up so I could race...but yah...lots of snow and mud...
