Can you create an affordable alternative to SRAM's impressive XX1 single-ring drivetrain (an XX1 hack, if you will)? And would it actually offer XX1-level performance? We're about to find out.
I'm excited to see how it works for you. I'm doing the same thing, but I have to buy all new parts cause I'm moving from 9 speed to 10 speed. Right now I'm waiting for my One-up 42t.
Yes, I'm using a single ring with a 36t rear cassette. Holy crap, I should get some kind of award for figuring this out. Everyone knows it's impossible to climb hills though on a 36t, because 10 years ago we were using 32t and 10 years before that 28-30.
It gets better though, I figured out that when I installed the XX1 crankset, I could take off the front derailleur AND the front shifter.
So what's the final price if you're spec'ing this out from scratch. I'd have to covert my current 9 speed to the 10 speed. So it'd be more than what I was hoping to spend on the conversion.
