How do you make a saddle more comfortable? Conventional wisdom suggests that you increase the padding. Tioga is bucking conventional wisdom altogether and ditching the padding entirely with their new Spyder Stratum saddle, which they contend is far more comfortable and supportive than traditional saddles. Here's the story.

It looks like a good idea.

Back in the day the most comfortable saddle money could buy was a Brooks. It was just a hunk of leather suspended between the steel rails with no padding at all. Yet, once broken in this saddle absorbed road shock very well and could be ridden hour after hour.

The downside is Brooks are both expensive and heavy.

Now if they would put a piece of ballistic nylon over over this shell, they may have me locked in. This would help keep your shorts from being abraded as you slide fore and aft, yet still be breathable to help remove unwanted moisture down there.
