Hi,

Sweet build, I wish I had 2008 frame or at least 2008 colour scheme, I am not the biggest fan of the yellow...

Have you considered Mavic x721 instead of 729s?

run a rcs ti spring for the dhx 5, easton cnt bar, thompson post, avid ultimates...dt 5.1d rims are really nice but they dent easy...but those are only my thoughts...otherwise the build looks stellar!

Damo - just out of interest; why pick that frame? (Yeti Fan flack jacket donned :twitch:)

From your sig I take it that you're based in Morzine and will be riding it pretty much all summer in mixed conditions (Euro).

Isn't that gonna mean an awful amount of maintenance on those slider things? I have no allegiance either way but as an innocent bystander, those things look like a nightmare for anything other than a race only bike. Used every day it could be time consuming and expensive.

Should be a nice bike though. Only parts I'd consider changing is the mech/shifter combo. I love my X0 but right now I'd seriously consider XT shadow and dual shift lever as an alternative. It's got the thumb action, the cable routing Shimano build quality and together they cost less than just the XO shifter from CRC. Worth a thought anyway. . . .

Ti spring to come before the summer starts.

No on the Easton bars. I do like them, but they are just too damn narrow:plthumbsdown:.

Thomson post - Easton posts are just as light & cheaper...

Avids: I originally wanted Avid Juicy Carbons, but have been talked into using Shimano '08 XTR with 203mm XT rotors. I had Juicy 7s last year and had a few issues with them (failing when needed). Shimano=fit and forget.

DT Swiss rims = Nice to look at, not too good to use (according to everyone else on here).

khoolhandz: that's a pretty comprehensive listing. Sounds like an awesome build. I'm not really prepared to sacrifice tyre choice for weight savings. I'll stick to HighRollers/Minions (that and the fact that I have stacks of them!). How are you liking your 303?

where's the snow lol
Haha! I'm going to have to just look at the bike for a while before being able to ride it properly! Loads of snow here!

I have awesome dealings with Yeti Cycles. This company have been very good to me and I hope I can do their bike justice by riding it for them.

As for the Mech/shifter choice - I love the race support SRAM gives us at the races. Awesome folk. Shimano are a tight-fisted lot and this alone has swayed my decision. That and the fact that X.0 is a benchmark design that the big S has had to copy...

At the risk of being stoned to death here on ridemonkey.com, I'm gonna say it anyways....better than the Sunday I replaced it with! :poster_oops:
Good to hear it. Always comforting to hear of good reviews for the bike you are about to own.

One thing I am not convinced of yet is the brakes:

I have not had experience with Shimano brakes since the old (and awesome) XT discs...

I have had experience with Avid's '04 Juicy 7s. Great stopping power, but a bit unreliable.

My mate swears by his Saint brakes, saying he would like to try the '08 XTRs (same price as Saint). I wouldn't mind the new Juicy Carbons, but basically to match up with the SRAM build. But brand-matching is not a good enough reason to choose a hugely important component for a race bike...

Anyone tried the new XTR braking systems for DH use?

What would be your ultimate DH race brake system?

On my 303, I got the Hope Moto V2's. They are abit heavy but you can get a non vented rotor that is significantly lighter.

I would't go V2's again if I were to do it over.

I'd go with a Formula Brake probly. You just dont need the stopping power of the V2's.

heres some help...
07 med. 303
fox 40rc2 ti blue spring
fox dhx5 400lbs. ti rcs spring
dt 440 hubs/ 6.1 rims (they ding pretty good. no flat spots yet. my buddies mavics fail; ie. crack)
thomson stem and seatpost
raceface diabulous bar/ odi grips
wtb ti saddle
hayes mags 9/8in. rotors
custom(sizing) raceface atlas cranks/ bb
xo trigger and short deraileur w/ 991 hollow pin
maxxis 2.7/2.5 highrollers st

my bike is pushin about 43.5 lbs. i could probably save more weight with formula brakes and an 8/7inch rotor set up.

my point is, not matter the component spec. the 303 frame is the main culprit for weight savings. ive noticed that the fitter ive become, the less i feel the bikes "heft". i really believe that can be said by all 303 owners.
other than that, your spec sounds awesome. just get it already. it will never be perfect from the get go. just remember, youve got a 303!!!

Nice one Harbinger. I'm reckoning on mine coming in around that weight which is fine by me.

My M3 was just over 43lbs and felt good.

I'd like a race bike around the 40 mark. Not really bothered to try for less, but don't want it much more...

if i remember correctly, the lightest i got my bike down to was about 41lbs. single ply tires with cross country tubes. not the best for normal riding. but it did help in a race i did. im thinking of getting an 08' frame too once its out. besides the small weight savings and different tubing, i really love the paint scheme!!! let me know when your bike is built. ride hard and ride safe!!!

With all the weight saving schemes posted on here, I'm thinking of switching to a yellow striped saddle. Yellow saddles produce a unique slipstream which should reduce overall bike weight in motion by 600 grams.
So, should I go with the black saddle or yellowish saddle to finish the build???

I just had to do it.
There's no other wheelbuilder more appropriate to build my custom wheelset for my Yeti other than Steve aka "Gravy." Master wheelsmith, a good friend and notably the former team wrench for the legendary turqouise and yellow Yeti squad in the haydays.

Nope. All my sources for a 165mm Grav Light are out of stock for a while. It's a motoX. There's only a few cos. with an 83mm specific crankset. Saints are just out of my $$$ range.

The 303 pedals soooooooooo nice. Tomorrow will be the first dirt sampling for this work of art.

How's that revox working out for you? I've been thinking of trying one on my 303.

I'll find out tomorrow on real dirt. Just pedalling around, the revox doesn't feel any different than the other 303 with Fox I tried. Just same ol speed sensitive shim stack... Oh, modification to the shock eyelets (excess material) is necessary if you choose to run a revox.

Frontrange, I went with yellow. My black saddle got messed up and I hate people on ebay who outbid me by 50 cents for that "one" saddle.. grrrr.

Here's the "final" build. Could use a Dorado and set of strokers.
