Pretty sure it's a composite. the only way you get sky definition that good is with a super long exposure. That means the camera has to be tracking the stars on a motorized base (like a programable telescope base). This means the cave wouldn't have worked as a viewing location. Even at 1min you get way less definition, and you get star trails starting.
